I know I have been quiet about it for a few days, but Project Recreate That Shawl continues! (I am very open to better project names)
I spent some time working on simply trying to parse out the stitch forensics the other night, but kept losing my place. So today I sat down, threw on Big Fish on the tv for both the catharsis and for timing purposes, and worked my way through what I had already written up and then carried onward, codifying the directions as I went.
I am using a vintage yellow crochet cotton from my stash; it was granted to me from a friend when her knitter mother passed two years ago. It is a slightly lighter weight than what is in the shawl, but it’s lack of stretch and the clarity of the stitches are very useful for my purpose here.
What you see here was constructed entirely during Big Fish; that movie has a 2 hour and 5 minute runtime, and in that time I pulled together the entirety of the rose and the round of leaves.
The remainder of the square around it all is relatively simple, mostly chain repeats. I expect I will have this motif ready for pattern testing by the end the day, probably within the next couple hours. I will reblog with pictures of my finished square and ask for testers at that point, and then I will set on working out the pattern of the triangles that run along the top edge, which build off more of a half-sunburst pattern than a petals rose.
