Estate sale part the final.
The smallest scraps are untagged, but a lot of it came out of a bin labeled silk scraps so 😅 I CANNOT overstate the beauty and literal silky smooth and flowy-ness of those last three watercolor painted silks. The camera doesn't do them justice.
@callmebliss @callmebliss-got-swamped
Oh my ZOD that orange silk tho 😭
...okay
Two separate posts about the fabric 😅
This is all the major yardage; the rest is bits and pieces.
5.5 yds of Gerson-Paris navy braid trim, unknown fiber content
5 yards of forest green wool trim
6 yds Christian Dior (???) fine white linen, 60"
5 yds Elliot Berman textiles imported white linen, 45"
5 yds Ecru Handkerchief linen, 45"
6 yds oyster Elliot Berman textiles imported 75% wool, 25% Tasmanian wool, 60"
12 yds black Armani (???) Elliot Berman textiles 96% wool, 4% nylon, 60"
6 yds cream worsted weight challis wool, 60"
@callmebliss @callmebliss-got-swamped any ideas of what to do with it all 😅😅😅 I don't think you sew, but do any of your followers? I'm a size 16ish and I'm not sure how far this yardage would go.
Oh my ZOD you tagged my main but I am dragging this straight to the fiber arts blog because I DO sew (getting back to it, depression stole it from me for a long time)
And I wan you to get to have this brag in front of ERRYBUGGY
Does anybody want to buy a butt ton of knitting needles on the cheap?
It is a mix of straight needles, circular needles, and DPN’s. There’s a variety of sizes and lengths. I got the bulk of them from my best friend‘s mom, who used to sell at a vintage/flea market, because I helped her pack to move across the country, almost a decade ago. In that time I have used almost none of them, and now I am getting ready to move, so I need to get them out.
Name your price, plus shipping, if you resell them or give them away I do not care.
This got so much activity so fast, oh my gosh! Thank you everyone for the offers and the inquiries. I got one that is really good, and then I have accepted, so I will be sending these out to one location soon.
As I go to the process of destashing in the preparation for my move, I will probably come across other similar clumps of stuff that have been hanging out waiting for me to do the thing with them, and I will throw them up on here. see if there’s interested parties.
Thingmakery stuff needs to be in the world making things!

FRIENDLY REMINDER TO PRACTICE GOOD IRONING TECHNIQUES AND NOT WATCH TV WHILE DOING IT/STORE YOUR IRON IN A CLEAN DRY PLACE AND DONT GRAB IT HALF SLEEP DEPRIVED WITHOUT CHECKING THE BOTTOM SO YOU DONT GET RUST MARKS
(luckily I can do full coverage for the phone box that I'm making with the remainder of this scrap, and take a toothbrush and oxiclean to sort the rabbit out under cold water)
Here it is in all its Highlands Coo glory!! I LOVE how it came out. It’s certainly a marathon. If you are considering making this quilt I have 3 pieces of advice for you
1-Buy an Acorn pressing solution pen and refill. This is GAME CHANGING for flat seams and better accuracy
2-for the love of all things, trim to the measurements at EVERY step
3-Make the thistle borders first. Your future self will be so over all the teeny piecing. You are just going to want to be able to add sashing and borders to finish the top. Trust me. You will thank your past self for thinking ahead!
That being said, go forth and make all the Coos!!!
no but genuinely I lose a little more patience for people who won't wear wool, leather, silk, or fur every day that I live in a world where plastic is increasingly the only damn kind of clothing you can find (or the only kind of fabric for sewing, even)
obviously, animal cruelty is horrible. I believe that even industries that rely on the deaths of animals should make their lives as good and their ends as humane as possible. and many of these industries need tighter environmental regulations on their production practices- some of the chemicals involved are highly toxic and ill-controlled at times
but at some point, you have to wake up to the fact that the only alternative we've found to date is destroying our planet
it's all plastic. and plastic is horrible for the world- the environment, humans, and especially animals. how cruelty-free is it to cause mass habitat loss? or climate change that disrupts food sources for those animals on a vast scale? how is that better than the deaths of a relatively small proportion of animals comparatively?
(and don't even start with "but pineapple leather! but cactus leather!" when those are still basically plastic due to heavy plastics use in their production processes. there is currently no non-plastic alternative to most animal-based textile products)
I've always tried to keep in mind that we all have to decide where our line is, that we all consume and there's no way of living in this world that doesn't take something from it. that for me, plastic clothing is to be avoided as much as possible, and for others, animal clothing products are to be avoided as much as possible. that the choice is equally valid
but I'm having a hard time seeing it as valid anymore when it just feels like trying to push the unpleasant part away from yourself so you can pretend your choice has no negative impacts. you're not wearing animal skin (or wool that an animal didn't even die to produce), so surely your way of doing things is better! no animals were harmed in the making of your outfit!
except. they were.
they and all the rest of us.

Good job girl. Good work.
No pattern involved, but I can tell you exactly how I did it if ya want
On to the hemming so I can wear this tomorrow night to the function without stepping on my own sparkles and eating shit in front of everyone on mic in my tiara
And Winnifred is helping
She’s such a good helper because look how well this came out
Great job Winnifred
Well done once again Singer 99k
DANNNNNNGGGGGG looking like a DEITY!! MAGNIFICENT! EPIC! GLORIOUS!
Totally what it is tbh. I thought about doing a T-tunic type thing but ew to sleeves I can NOT sleeves.
Also I’m hoping someone got a good pic of me standing up because the only one that came through to my phone from the roving photographer was sitting down and it loses the full effect.
Tiara set worked out well though.
After I dropped jaws telling people I made the dress, I followed by kidding that I spent all weekend with a bedazzler to make the accessories 😆
I hope I get a chance to wear this stuff ever again. It was fun being shiny.
@yarnings so here’s the thing: it’s paillettes. Which makes all the difference.
The classic sequin shape is slightly bowl shaped, or shaped like the inside of a very simple steel can drum, and has a hole in the center. When you tie it to the fabric, those edges are elevated a little bit. Wee hard plastic edges fixed in place and bearing ouch.
The paillette. Shape can vary wildly, but the basic as on this dress is simply a circle. A flat circle, and the hole is very close to one edge. When they are fixed to the fabric, they dangle from that point, and also are able to move and shift a little bit.
So when my underarm rubs across pailettes, they shift with the movement, remaining smooth to the touch because they overlap. Like running your hand across a shark.
If my underarm were to rub across sequins, they would refuse to love, and it would be akin to shaving with a dull cheese grater.
Sensory issues are real af, but the right type of spangle can slide past a whole lotta sins
