Rod Stewart: Sailing/Stone Cold Sober (45 vinyl, Warner Bros, 1975) ▪ ▪ Rod is going to be sailing on some stormy waters forever more given the condition of this 45. ▪ This copy was given to me by my dad. Although he fueled my love of music, encouraged me when studying music & then later audio engineering, his capacity to look after vinyl is questionable to say the least. ▪ Anyway I decided it's time to clean this up and give it a spin. Surprisingly it's not too bad sounding. Stone Cold Sober - Day 4

Realizations on Day 4:

Being sober for an extended period of time is like looking into a really bright light. You kind of want to squint your eyes all the time, and everything sort of feels a bit overwhelming. I think that is where the substance comes in to dull your senses. You literally are not used to feeling this much raw physical stimulation.

Nights are definitely the worst. I feel like I don’t know what to do between work and getting ready for sleep. My brain doesn’t want to go to sleep without something shutting it down.

I am really tired.

The thing is, I am not even a severe alcoholic. I am someone who has a drink or two regularly, and goes overboard when I go out on holidays or events. I don’t wake up thinking about alcohol or get plastered every night, but I definitely use it as a coping mechanism for stress and to turn my mind off.

One of my motivations for doing this was to get to know myself uninhibited. So, no more turning my brain off. If my brain wants to freak out about something, I am going to let it finally work through the situation.

I’m ready to feel good about being sober.
