In the high desert of Jordan, some two thousand years ago, tombs, caves and temples were carved out of blushing pink sandstone. For what seems to be a very long time Petra or the Rose City remained hidden by shifting sand and time. Today, however, it is proudly counted as one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites and in 2007 was also named among the New 7 Wonders of the World.

As you enter the city, each rock carving will tell you more about the lost civilization of the Nabateanś. The stories never really exhaust neither does its secrets! The wealth of this nomadic desert people is said to have grown from a lucrative incense trade.

Both Tourists and travelers from all over the world come to the spot every year drawn by its raw beauty. There are two main features of the city- the water conduit system and the rock-cut architecture.

Petra, the city of ruins is some piece of art and the stone backdrop changes color each passing hour. A 3 hour drive in buses or taxis from the Red Sea port will bring you to the gateway of Petra. The spring time and the fall offers the best temperature to witness the changing colors with fantastic light. Come early and stay late!
