Theater Kids
Can we just talk about the idea that “theater kids” have to be the ones on stage? Like, I️ just saw a meme that was about what’s in a theater kid’s mind, and I️ did not appreciate that half of it was about getting parts in plays/musicals and actually performing. I️ mean I️ enjoy thinking of myself as a theater kid since I️ love plays and musicals. I️ love watching them, that is. I️ don’t think I️ could ever actually stand on stage and act or sing. But does the fact that I️ have no backbone nor talent really mean I’m not a true “theater kid”? I️ still put in the work to memorizing all of the lines/lyrics in the plays, I️ spend all of my money buying CDs and other merchandise, and whenever there is a chance to see a musical/play I️ make sure to be in the crowd. I️ adore reading the scripts and understanding the characters, I️ even wrote a script or two in my theater class in 8th grade. I️ just realized a long time ago I️ can’t act or sing or dance. Yet now I’m finding out I’m not a theater kid? So, what am I️?
