Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) Speaks On Police Brutality Epidemic
By now we’re used to seeing one of hip-hop’s leading thought-provoking artists, Mos Def, going by his true self, Yasiin Bey. in class with special guest @stopbeingfamous, dude's great.
I’m a recovering, undercover, over-lover, recovering from a love I can’t get over. I’m a 20-foot-tall phoenix on the edge of a ten-foot cliff. In this world of covered wagons, I’m a UFO. I’m a bumble bee, with airplane wings with a hollow body and a million reasons to soar. I’m the master of molecules and matter—manipulator of that which is not yet manifested, whether it matters or not. I’m a warm puddle on concrete. I’m a cold front happening to your surprise. #ICYMI | we got to know ferrari sheppard a lil more last week and of course, he’s awesome.
ferrari sheppard is well known by his twitter handle, @stopbeingfamous. he candidly tweets about a myriad of topics from politics and societal issues to music and other forms of entertainment. his opinion is captivating because it is grounded in the truth about the state of the world. and in this time where lies dominate popular culture, he is often a breath of fresh air. but, this interview is the first time we really got to hear ferrari speak about himself and his perspectives. he touched on things like sexism amongst males and females as well as the cultural celebration of the “starving artist.” i especially liked the part where he spoke about how he hates to be called “conscious.” i actually don’t like being called “conscious” either, i think it sounds quite pretentious and kind of annoying. obviously, i dug the interview lol. what did you think?
