The road
I try to speak but I feel a grip around my throat Constricting my airways So that I'm gasping for breath. If words come out They're so shaken That I barely understand Nor remember what was spoken. I lay my body on the line for you So that you may not die in vain I lay my life out like cards for you So that you may not feel the pain. The road is both cold with The curdled blood of those Who lay before me And warm with the fresh blood Of those dying all around me. The men in their yellow jackets Tower above my body And in order to keep the peace They put dents in me With hands and boots In order to keep the peace They place handcuffs on me And I have the right to remain silent. Still though, I part my lips And allow the truth to spill from me Like the bullets spill from their guns And I unzip my skin Take all the bones that I don't need Use them to burst the tyres Of the trucks that carry An unnecessary future. Use them to pick the locks Of doors that guard Their precious cargo Worth more than our lives You should take their weapons all apart. Take all the veins that bind my flesh Use them to tie instead All the ammo in this place Onto a giant anchor To drop into the sea May the next generations study These strange contraptions In a world that just feels peace. Use my skin, it weighs me down To wrap up all the parts Of their deconstructed weapons And turn them into art. Use my flesh to cushion Every fallen child's head And use my heart to reignite The energy that's left And with my parts I beg of you To build a better world Because I lay my body down for you So that you may not die in vain.
