Connecting the Dots
Emotional abuse is often overlooked, but it is real and dangerous. This abuse is frequently normalized, worsened by the failure of systems, and can lead to physical violence. All of these points explored in this blog connect to a single truth: emotional abuse is still abuse, and it needs to be taken seriously.
In this blog series, I explored how emotional abuse is often misunderstood, especially when there's no physical harm. In Maid, Alex’s story shows how hard it is to recognize and escape emotional abuse. She also faces challenges from the legal system and support services, which fail to protect her. This reflects the real-life struggles of many survivors who are left to navigate these impossible situations on their own. Finally, the series makes it clear that emotional abuse can build over time and turn violent, making early recognition and action crucial.
Maid is not just a drama TV show; it's a call to awareness. Alex’s story reminds us that emotional abuse leaves silent scars, and if we ignore them, we are risking letting those scars become wounds that never heal.
