Following the emancipation of slavery, the Black codes and lynching were tools used to maintain the legal, social, political, and economic intimidation and oppression of Black people. :: Referred to as racial terror, the lynching of Blacks by Whites was committed in the presence of large crowds, photographers, and police officers; and, their dead bodies were often left hanging or paraded through Black neighborhoods to terrorize the community and reinforce racial subjugation. These killings were rationalized through White supremacist narratives of Black criminality and bestiality that dehumanized Black people and offered impunity to White perpetrators of racial terror and violence, including members of law enforcement. :: —Dr. Joceyln Smith Lee & Michael A. It’s the Police”: Examining Young Black Men’s Exposures to Trauma and Loss Resulting From Police Violence and Police Killings :: For all the people who still believe they are our friends, and here to “help”. They are not. And never were. They are the arms and legs of the carceral state, targeting marginalized/vulnerable populations to feed the belly of the beast. 👁 :: #criticalresistance #stopstateviolence #wedontneedthepolice #theyneedus #endthecarceralstate #ourcapacityisourvoice #educate #elevate #untileverywhereisfree - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/CBkGVyfgarU/?igshid=khpuv8m0euce
