A catalytic converter is part of your Vehicle's exhaust system that converts harmful Engine-exhaust pollutants into something less harmful to the environment through a chemical reaction.
Typically, most of the bad hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust are converted into less bad carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapor.
Catalysts come in different shapes and sizes, about size of a loaf of bread and are positioned in the exhaust system between the Engine and the Muffler. The converter needs high heat to function, so it’s placed as close to the Engine. Mostly! more than one Catalytic converter is used in every Vehicle.
Why they’re stolen?
Money is the main reason Catalytic Converters are often stolen.
They contain three Metals that aid in the chemical reaction that makes exhaust pollutants less Harmful: 1. Platinum, 2. Palladium and 3. Rhodium. The prices of these Metals have risen drastically.
As a result, Junkyards are more actively collecting Catalyst, and some Companies have sprung up that can purchase catalyst sent to them.
The increasing value has prompted thieves to steal Catalytic converters, often cutting them out from under a car parked on the street and in a Vehicle repair workshop.
Stealing of Vehicle Catalyst is Vehicle vandalism and Criminal act against the Law, both National and Internationally.
Vehicle without Good functional Catalysts cannot be drive in USA and other advanced Countries with law Enforcement against air pollution.
Two of the major functions of Vehicle Catalyst are to prevent carbon monoxide in the atmosphere and Secondary function is fuel efficiency in Vehicles.
You should know by now that Vehicle Catalysts worth more values, than stealing it from people's Vehicle in exchange for the temporal money you might get from it.
