Not all traditions are good traditions. Every year thousands of birds migrate from north to south and back to follow the optimum climate which allows them to feed, reproduce or simply survive. Sicily and the narrow few km that separate it from the European mainland is one of the major access gates to Europe and one of the reasons Italy is blessed with such vast biodiversity and many bird species. Every year in may birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon and the harrier, just to name some, travel back to Europe, tired and hungry from having crossed the Mediterranean flapping their wings l, as they can’t rely on ascending currents over the water. This is when they are most vulnerable and this is when poachers shoot them out of the sky. I spent some days with the activists of CABS, an anti-poaching organization active on both sides of the Straight of Sicily, with bases in Reggio Calabria and Messina to tell their story on my new new series of #storiedellacalabria with @caffeguglielmo . The video will be out soon on my YouTube Channel and Facebook page. #antipoaching #activism #animalactivism #saveourplanet #takeastand #nationalgeographic #amazingeverydaypeople #bethechange #goodpeople (presso Reggio di Calabria)
