closed starter for @storiesinink plot: dove and your muse are good friends, but she's had feelings for years but has always held back under the assumption they're unrequited/because she was in denial + other dramatic reasons we can decide.
the porch was dark, the light having flickered before it went out for good and dove hadn't minded. it was night-time, but not so dark that she couldn't squint out at the landscape, watching and listening to the waves crashing on the shore. crickets chirped in the bushes that hugged the beachside cottage and the leaves rustled in the breeze, the distant sound of her friends watching a movie inside the house another instrument for the symphony the world threw together for her tonight. she'd turned off her kindle and tucked it at her side, leaning into the side of the couch. she was in her head tonight, that much was evident by the way she sat there contently with nothing to stimulate her, an uncharacteristic sight. the interruption wasn't unwelcome, especially not when she spied who was coming out and what they held in their hand. "you're sweet, but i really wasn't hungry." she insisted, despite taking the plate they handed to her. she reluctantly twirled her fork in the pasta, taking a bite half to placate them but finding maybe she hadn't lost her entire appetite. "thank you." she offered as she finished chewing, glancing up at them where they'd sat beside her.
