dear god it never ends with people portraying chara as suggesting that you use the attack option even though (as far as I can tell) there isn't even a single line of dialogue (even in the genocide rout) where chara outright tells you to attack someone in the cannon. it tortures me to no end.

Well to be fair during the Sans fight the battle text will say “Can’t dodge forever, keep attacking.” but this is at the very final boss fight of that particular route when Chara is very nearly at max LV.

But even so, when Sans is sparing you all the flavor text will say is:“Sans is sparing you.” and the music that will play during this moment is the same as when we must choose to spare or fight Asgore even though San’s speech is pretty weak compared to Asgore’s anecdote about missing his son and wife.

Even though Sans’ plea is just “friendship is great, let’s stop fighting.”

It feels almost like Chara is watching you very intently in this final moment, this final chance to show Mercy and Spare someone (even if it may be a hollow gesture in the wake of everything)
