I just spoke to my friend who knows British Sign Language and she said that the sign Sherlock makes for "he is my guest" literally means: "we are together/we belong together". How much do you bet they did that on purpose, even when taking into consideration that BSL has a very different sentence structure from spoken English? I just bet there could have been another word for "guest" and they purposefully chose not to use it.

Re: everything is fake except when Sherlock wakes up near the end: That's not possible because he tears up the list in that scene, so the scene on the plane before that, where we first learn about the list, has to be real as well. The graveyard is definitely MP, though.

I’m thinking that first scene is half reality and half MP because he’s hallucinating by the end of it. The question is when does he slip back under?

So, uh, I may have missed this but has anyone already pointed out how Moffat says in the panel: "We always say 'have your cake and eat it'."? Because to me that sounds a lot like: "We put in all this gay subtext, we HAVE to make it canon." I thought you might appreciate that interpretation.

Hello, I just read your AWESOME compilation of all the drink mentions in Sherlock and I would like to point out another one that so far no one has mentioned: in Many Happy Returns, John drinks whiskey or scotch (definitely alcohol) while watching the uncut version of the birthday video. So we have John watching a video of a gorgeous man he has feelings for while holding a metaphor for sex in his hand. I'll just leave this here.

MHR has been mentioned before by warmth-and-constancy, but we weren’t really sure what to make of it if alcohol represents sex. This led to LSiT reconsidering the meaning of alcohol to be something more like “unrequited love”/”romantic longing”. It’s a great addition, though, I’ll put it in!
