Some sugar, just not as much. Mustard can be sweet! I used to make sweet garlic ice cream sometimes.

I feel like haters gonna hate though -- I don’t have as much experience with this as others, but I don’t think there’s a correlative rise in assholes when you tag more thoroughly/expansively. Like, possibly there’s a rise in assholes because there’s a rise in readership, but that just sorta comes with the territory a lot of the time, much as it shouldn’t/we would wish otherwise. 

I suppose there’s the off chance they were monitoring the tag specifically so they could be a dickface to everyone who used it (which, wow, someone who wants to specifically spend all day talking about Tony Stark’s poor mentorship probably has some therapy-level shit they need to work through and aren’t coping healthily) but that's a pretty outlier position. I would reckon for every hater following a tag to your fic, there’s going to be massively more following the tag because they actually want to read that. 

So, it is a roll of the dice, but if someone is specifically looking to up their readership, there are worse places to start than expanded tagging.

I just used it as a catch-all term for final project. When I was an undergraduate we had a “senior thesis” we were expected to complete in order to graduate, but I call it a capstone because if you call it a thesis, people who have been to grad school go “What the fuck, you did a thesis as an undergrad?” and really, fanfic archive tag SEO isn’t graduate-thesis-level if you’re getting some kind of data science degree.

THANKS, IT'S THE WORST. I mean, they've played 4 games and their record is 2-1-1, which at this point in the season makes them NWHL-caliber! But being the goalie mom is AWFUL. My heart just thumps. I should start doing lines of Xanax in the rink bathroom.

I know very little about hockey, but I would think that would be a lower-injury position given they’re not careening around the rink all the time, and they’re wrapped in tons of padding. Like, goalie is what I would like to play because it would mean I’m not slamming into my peers at constant high rates of speed. On the other hand, I suppose those pucks leave a mark...rather like watching your kid take rubber bullets all day, I imagine.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, man! You and Sci are both born in February but she’s the only one who yelled at me about it. :D 

I’m of the opinion that those born in February just have extra experience in surviving it early, but there’s no arguing with you February babies when you get your mind set.

the "flying with a live lobster" is now actually a legitimate concern in my life, since I moved to somewhere known for lobsters. I live in terror of discovering that the person next to me has a wriggling sea insect under the seat in front of us because lobsters are creepy and gross.

If it’s any consolation they’re required to package it in a clear, leakproof box, so at least you’ll see immediately if there are any lobsters about?

I presume it's so geologists etc. can do their respective things re: rocks and analysis and stuff, but all I can think of now is someone bringing rocks/sand, putting them in a sock or something, and beating people with it.

I would think also, tourists bringing rocks/sand back from their vacations. My stepfather does have a five pound bag of dirt he bought for panning from the diamond-themed state park somewhere in Arkansas, though they were driving, not flying....

Icelandic hotdogs are AMAZING!!! I just scanned quickly through the article so I don't know if they mentioned remoulade specifically, but the main sauce on an Icelandic hotdog is their own, hot dog specific, kind of mustard (the dark sauce in the picture). Its mild but smokey and delicious! They also add fried onions to their dogs and the combo is very yummy.

The mustard and the fried/raw onion combo do sound really good. I just couldn’t move past the remoulade for a while.

Please try mayonnaise and Peanut Butter on a hot dog as its condiments. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Unless you’re allergic to peanuts. Then you might be a little disappointed.

Sadly I am both allergic to peanuts and deeply averse to mayonnaise on sandwiches (or sandwich-like foodstuffs). It seems like that would make the hot dog really....oily, too. 

However, I am willing to try a hot dog with almond butter. Even with almond butter and mustard, perhaps!

What even is the point of the green beans? If it were some sort of legume that added protein that would be one thing, but green beans are just a vegetable. I do not understand. They're not even sweet like carrots. What the hell?

Fiber? I don’t know. There was a time when green beans were a major component of diets, sometime in the sixties or seventies, so perhaps this was like a nod to attempting to diet?

If you put tinned green beans in a blender, they really just come out looking and tasting....brown? Like too weak to be umami, but brown? See also veggie chopped "liver."

Answers About The Elevator

I feel like I should tell you all, before we start, that I was so rattled by the phone call in the elevator that I almost walked past my bus stop because, after posting that post, instead of going to the bus, I started following someone walking a dachshund in front of me. 

Like my panicked brain went “doggo!” and just followed the dog, because I know that dachshunds are kind and will also rip your throat out if you threaten Their Person.

I work for an alarm monitoring call center. Those phones actually go to us (so we can differentiate between an actual emergency, an accidental bump, a drunk person, or once a dog...) but they are actual phone numbers. Like, we get wrong numbers that say they're coming from an emergency elevator line that are actually from senior citizens in New Jersey trying to restructure their home loans. I guess you can misdial both ways.

I'm stretching the old steel sieve memory here, but there are apparently predictive dialers that will call every combination of the last four digits of a given NPA/NXX and either pass the answered calls to a telemarketer (back in my day, when people had jobs) or play a recording, as was the case for you. Your elevator had a valid, 10-digit # that isn't in the Do Not Call registry.

See, these two comments are just wild. Like it feels like we have come far enough in telecom that we should somehow...reserve those lines for certain other numbers. I don’t know, that just makes me think harder than I want to think about how telephones work.

I want to know how many times that phone's rang without anyone answering (and how many people have been completely freaked out at the phone in the elevator ringing)

Here’s the thing: I DIDN’T ANSWER THE CALL. 

I got into the elevator and when I hit the button for the ground floor, IT STARTED RINGING. Around the second floor, it just...picked up. All on its own. And I got the credit card pitch.
