Welcome to Dark Souls
Dark Souls: Izalith Demons. D&D 5e Monster Stats! Here’s the last of the Dark Souls pages I planned on making for the time being, that of the demons of the chaos flame. The demons of Lost Izalith. Originally the plan was to just make the Asylum Demon (and his more powerful twin in the Stray Demon), as it’s the first boss you fight in the game and I thought rather iconic as a whole to Dark Souls. But I figured, why not include a few others just to fill out more pages and so included the Capra and Taurus demons as well. Capra Demon: The Capra Demon was rather straight forward, it’s really just a normal enemy that you get to fight early as a boss. Swings its swords around and that’s about it. If you want to recreate the boss fight I suggest pairing it with some Wolves from the regular monster manual perhaps. Asylum Demon (and Stray Demon): I decided to call these guys Guardian Demons, as that what seems to be their main purpose in the games is. One preventing anyone from entering or leaving the Undead Asylum, with another one as backup. Another guarding the depths of Lost Izalith itself. And even one seemingly guarding the bridge in Dark Souls 3. Of course when designing them I had to include that notorious butt-slam. The stray demon being given its more menacing fiery explosion. Taurus Demon: Again the Taurus demon was a relatively straight forward monster to stat. It’s another ordinary enemy you fight early as a boss, and most of what it does is smash stuff. I also made them all Lawful Neutral, as going through the lore of the game and seeing how the demons of Lost Izalith act... I don’t really consider them evil. They are dangerous and aggressive to you, sure. But nothing suggests they have ever done anything more than defend their home. Be that fighting you off when you reach that part of the game, or preventing you from reaching the bells (which will then of course lead you to needing to go and kill the Bed of Chaos.) As we see in Dark Souls 3 with the Bed of Chaos, and the Chaos Flame, gone they are all dying out and turning to stone. So really I don’t get the sense that they want anything more than to stay alive. Feel free to use these monsters to smash your player characters though! [Edit 03/24/2018: page 03 was displaying an L instead of an I for its alphabetical tag. Fixed it quick.]
