The man’s face fell a bit, eyes suddenly made of steel. Then he chuckled; it did not sound nice.
“Oh my, kids these days. I don’t think I can give him in a stranger’s care.” His eyes fell on Ruben, piercing the child with his gaze. “But I see you have another babyboy on your hands.” He contemplated for a moment, before shrugging. Leslie usually lulled adults into coddling him, and his father hated it; but he would have any excuse to rid himself off the boy, another excuse to unleash anger.
“Admittedly, I must say, I really am very stressed. How about I go downtown, as I was supposed to, and pick him off of you in an hour? I can bring a treat along, if you want.” Leslie shivered, barely believing what he heard. He was scared of his father, but being alone with two strangers was terrifying. But he remained quiet, things were always better when he was quiet.
Ruben’s nose wrinkled in disgust as the man referred to him as “baby boy.” The heir to the Victoriano fortune despised it when laypeople patronised him, a boy far beyond his years. And how dare he have the audacity to glare at him? He could dissect this insignificant microbe if he wanted to, just like all those pigs.
Laura on the other hand was beaming. “No problem at all, sir. We’ll take good care for him.” She looked down. “We’ll have so much fun - I promise!”

"Don't be so grumpy."
Ruben snorted at his sister's gentle chiding. "It's too bright," the young boy complained with his arms folded.
He sat neatly on the plain white blanket while Laura reached into the wicker basket to pull out drinks and sandwiches. She carefully placed each item and began distributing the teas. "You can always wear my hat," Laura offered as she glanced at him underneath the wide-brimmed sunhat.
"No."
"Suit yourself." Another one of his moods. She didn't mind; he'd always come around when he was ready. "Being out in the sun will do you some good. Staying cooped up in that basement is not healthy. Especially for a growing boy."
Closing his eyes he sighed. "Yes, Laura."
She smiled widely. "Here." She held out the steaming cup. "Drink up. We'll have a nice time and then we'll head back home, okay?"
"Alright." Ruben took the cup from her, giving a small smile despite himself.

She likes to hide under the car.
Managed to lure her out with raisins to get this shot.
Stray rabbit. Maybe I'll be Alice in Wonderland...
