Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Family, Here’s the update for Leland, the cat hit by a car this morning in the Bronx. (In this video, you’ll see his hind leg sticking out through his chest). It turns out that Leland had two traumas. The first was when he was young. He was hit by a car and his femur bone healed and curved in the wrong way leaving him with a serious deformity. This limb has been like this and today, the second injury happened. He was hit by a car and the limb was re-injured. He has been dragging around this limb, and today it was clear that he just can’t ambulate. Amazingly he is Felv/FIV negative! He is admitted to the Animal Medical Center and is receiving pain medication, fluids, antibiotics and nutritional support. We will have emergency surgery to remove his unusable right hind limb. He isn’t stable enough, yet, to operate, so he’ll likely be up for surgery on Friday. Leland is a young stray cat. And he’s suffered unimaginable pain. Thank goodness he found us. Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Family! We just had to share this! You may remember Oliver, a badly neglected cream colored cat that was so dirty, he looked like he had mange. Little Wanderers rescued him just 10 days ago and he’s a completely different cat. He’s been rescued and all cleaned up and is being fostered by the wonderful @gsparkles who wanted to let his resident cat Putnam, interact. And here’s why! It was love at first sight. How sweet is this?! Cats are generally litter mate animals and do better in households with other cats. Regrann from @littlewanderersnyc - Family! A very happy ending for Diamond. She may have been looked over by everyone at last weeks #adoptapalooza adoption event but this weekend she went home with her amazing moms to Boston Massachusetts. Diamond’s rescue is a sweet one. Her current foster mom Kelsey saw her potential and rescued her from going back out on the street during a TNR project in the Bronx. It’s a particularly sweet story because Diamond is FIV positive and unfortunately many overlook them because of this benign feline virus. But these mommies know better. A huge thank you to @kat_nie for generously paying Diamonds adoption fee. And thank you to her two moms, @arae.music and @gemtonez Diamond will be living in beautiful Boston where she will join a beautiful home with plenty of space and a big bed to lay down and cozy up in! Tiny Taco and his big brother Purrito are in a foster home together waiting for their forever humans to find them. These sparky little creatures are about 13 weeks old, super social, adventurous, brave, great with other dogs and cats, and very interactive. These babies are very little (Tiny Taco is the runt!) but have large personalities and a lot of love and cuddles to share! Their foster mom says: "The two of them are absolute angels! Taco is a total lovebug, and enjoys spending his day snuggling on the couch watching Netflix. He may be tiny, but has so far proven to be fearless and isn't phased by much (vacuum, big dogs, etc). Purrito is more of the active/adventurous type, he loves to play and is easily entertained but very quick to cuddle up to you once he gets sleepy -- he's also a total sucker for belly rubs! In rescue, you meet dogs with all sorts of personalities from all sorts of backgrounds -- some stressed, some sad, some excited, some happy go lucky... and then once in a while you come across a dog that actually smiles. Sunday, this 4-month-old Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix, has the most endearing smirk, and it's not just the expression @wrightshotspetphotography happened to catch in this sweet pic. Sunday is a wonderfully easy to love girl, friendly with everyone, on the submissive side, and great with other animals. HIs face looked so forlorn, his expression was quiet but there was panic in his eyes. When we asked to meet him, the kennel attendants told us he was too aggressive and that nobody had touched him since he arrived because he was growling at the pole they had used to collar and drag him into his cage. While we are extremely careful with any kind of behavioral issue, aggression in particular, something just did not add up. Of course most dogs in his position would be beyond scared, but how could he have been left untouched and unwalked for days? We convinced the attendants to let us open the cage. He was too afraid to take any treats, and he urinated on himself when we got near. But with some slow and gentle coaxing, he wobbled out from behind bars. We had suspected that Angel was different from most dogs by the look of him, but it was clear as soon as he stood up that this bully was deformed. His proportions are adorably distorted and squashed -- his body looks like a giant lumpy cube, his front legs seem a little longer than they should be with his paws a tad to large for his legs, and his hind legs are smaller and curled under. What is this sweet creature? Was he born this way, a product of inbreeding or his mother receiving poor nutrition or abuse while he was in the womb?
