BUGATTI?
THE WEED, you say?
Demonschool is a new-style tactics RPG where motion equals action. Defeat big weirdos in between the human and demon worlds as Faye and her
Demonschool finally released today (on all platforms)! The pitch is that it's obviously Persona (1 and 2)-inspired, with a dash of 3+ since it has what are tantamount to S-Links and a linear time/calendar system. I'm still wrapping my head around the battle system, which is grid-based and almost entirely revolves around the movement of your characters. The twist about it I like most is its Italian horror influence. It's not quite the American "Hamburger Festival" take on Persona...
...but it is set at a college instead of high school, so it gets that oft-wished feature of the Western Persona fandom checked off. Other than that, I'm still forming my thoughts about the game, but I should have an idea by Friday--when we stream it--since it's a brand-new game that qualifies for Digital Devil Spawn, which doesn't happen too often.
I am dropping another dead rat at your doorstep.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4251710/EXSTETRA/?curator_clanid=45611763 - EXSTETRA / 「エクステトラ」 from FuRyu, at the height(?) of everything being Persona 4.
This didn't get translated back in 2013 (blessed, aren't we), but it's getting a port to Steam this year so FuRyu is translating it now (ChatGPT will be doing its big one).
Game about kissing anime girls to fight bullshit. Wikipedia cites one polygon article claiming that the game is like Tales of. Completely wrong, I genuinely don't know where they got this other than it's Japanese and so is Tales of. Main art from Katsumi Enami, of Star Ocean 4 Edge Maverick (in)fame.
This has boy kissing in it, but it might be homophobic boy kissing 🥵
Probs easy to emulate the 3ds version but it was also on vita.
The game's overall theme is "saving the world with a kiss".[5] The main character, a male teenager called Ryoma,[1] has the ability to "kiss", and, in effect, "absorb" energy from enemies, and use that energy to create "miracles".[6]
In September 2013, Xseed Games commented that the game was an unlikely candidate to be translated into English.[12]
Four Famitsu reviewers gave Exstetra scores of 8, 8, 7 and 7, for a total score of 30/40.[13]
Oh nooooooooooooooooooo
This looks like a weapons-grade Vita game. But maybe we'll need to play stuff like Conception first to really understand the creative continuity?
Was Digital Devil Spawn a cursed idea??

Sorry to jump in the ask box w/ yet another recommendation for Spawn streams, but I guess I'm that guy now. Falcom had two attempts at targeting the 2010s Persona 4 malaise - Tokyo Xanadu and Sen no Kiseki. The latter was much more successful at establishing itself and made Kiseki achieve some popularity outside of Japan. Tokyo Xanadu was a failed(?) attempt to revive Xanadu and turn it into Persona (The game's fine but it didn't spawn a series like I think Falcom wanted it to). Falcom announced a sequel a few years ago and hasn't said a peep about it since. Tokyo Xanadu would fit the format quite well (Especially compared to a quadrilogy w/ multiple franchise spanning sequels).
Oh god, I haven't thought about Tokyo Xanadu since it originally came out.
This is pretty much the quintessential Vita aesthetic right here. "Bright, yet flat."
I have never understood or played the Legend of Heroes/Trails series. Granted, my biggest era of enthusiasm for Falcom was 20 years ago when a friend let me borrow his PC Engine with the CD version of Ys Books I&II. For a VGM junkie such as myself, Redbook audio is like crack.
These are excellent recs for DD Spawn, though, thanks!!
Heyya, Eirikr! You asked about the SMTII LPs from last year, and what your voice was like back then. I just wanted to say that you're sounding a lot better these days. It felt maybe a bit personal for Twitch chat, so I hope it was alright for me to message you here - and I hope that you're feeling more yourself as well!
Hey there, Ultrahussy!
Thanks for remembering and being considerate (though I consider the stroke and its effects a public thing at this point, so no need to be discreet). It's good to know I sound better than I did 2 years ago! My newest round of speech therapy has greatly increased the strength of my tongue and lips/cheeks (muscles you never really think about as being muscles) in a short time, and my voice box is improving as well--and I know what to do to improve it further. I appreciate you telling me! Slowly but surely, I am feeling more like myself.
