Double Feature of the Day
A New Day in Old Sana’a (2005, Bader Ben Hirsi)
I Am Nojoom, Age 10 and Divorced (2014, Khadija Al-Salami)
This week I have decided that each day will showcase a film produced by, set in, or starring an individual from one of the countries affected by Trump Administration’s Muslim ban countries.
Today’s pair of films are from Yemen. A New Day in Old Sana’a is a British-Yemen co-production. It is the first film to be filmed in Yemen and is a fairly straight-forward romantic fable. I am Nojoom, Age 10 and Divorced is a docudrama presenting a critique of child-brides.
