You seem to know most of what you're talking about. but you just suggested that someone stop oiling their ears unless it's emu oil... FIRST, emu oil is a cruel product and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. SECOND, tapers shouldn't be used to stretch AT ALL, Especially above a 2g. Using a taper to stretch to 0g WILL most definitely ALWAYS end in a torn lobe. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you should be more careful about what you tell people.
I'm always open to suggestions but this was actually told to me by very credible people, both pieces of advise I gave. Why would you not suggest emu oil, only because you think its cruel? the farm kills them anyway, for other products, emu oil is a bi-product, its more "Native American," using every part of the animal. they kill them for meat and leather. Also the place I get my emu oil, Desert Palms Emu Oil, uses 99% of the emu so it isn't actually all that cruel, otherwise it would go to waste, now its going to help someone. The reason I recommended it isn't frivolous either, it is for an important reason. That is is because emu oil is the only oil that allows the skin to breathe under it and is thus safe for open wounds. Even Jojoba oil cannot do that. Otherwise, it is not safe to oil ears with open wounds at all, it traps bacteria inside and slows healing. That is why I suggested that. Cruelty or not, it's the only product compatible with the body for that particular problem.
Tapers are the only way to gradually reliably gently stretch from standard piercings to about 2g. beyond that I would tape instead, but my piercer still says tapering is fine up until 00g, and he is quite good and famous so I trust him over you, no offense. Just saying...
But I'm posting this up here everyone should be able to voice their opinions (as long as they aren't dangerously stupid like "nails make excellent jewelry" or something) (PS that was sarcasm please do not wear nails at all in any part of your body ever for any reason 0.o)
