Summary:
New York City, 1936. A thousand dollars in cash slides under the door of private investigator Ben Reilly's office along with a folder of photographs and an instruction to shadow Duke Ellington's piano work for three weeks at the Congo Room. By the end of the first week, Sergeant Jefferson Davis Morales of the Twenty-Eighth Precinct is dead in the doorway, an assassin in a white suit has stepped through a hole in the air, and a fifteen-year-old boy named Miles Morales has walked up four flights of stairs to ask the Spider, though he does not yet know that is who he is asking, to find his father's killer.

In the wake of the infamous "Fandom Has a Hidden Generative AI Problem" report published anonymously in the Heated Rivalry fandom, I have participated rather actively in the discourse about using AI (generative vs assisted) for fanfic writing. I have published a lengthy Behind the Scenes series of transparency posts on my Tumblr: Stories with Striding_Valkrie, to reveal my use of assistive AI, such as Grammarly for proofreading and editing punctuation and spelling, and Claude for summarizing my thought bullet-point doc for clarity before writing stories.
Since then, I have taken an additional step in transparency. I am tagging the works I have published (that have used Grammarly for editing or Claude for outline summaries) with appropriate tags, such as #AI Assistance via Grammarly and #AI Assisted. If this is a problem for you, then you can just move on and ignore my work.
I know, firsthand, the damage that generative AI has done - because during the infamous February 2025 AO3 scrape conducted by a rogue user named nyuuzyou, all of my published work (pre Feb 2025) was included in the scrape and was fed/used to train a Generative AI/LLM known as HuggingFace.
I am not about to be an AI-Apologist or a hypocrite; I have already taken steps to find and transition to No-AI tools, such as using Ellipsus for beta-reading. Moreover, for my next long-saga fic, which will be a Medieval Mandalorian story, I have commissioned a digital artist to make the cover art - instead of using Canva (as I have been doing so far).
