It’s a wrap on the filming of Strike Back Season 7.
Massive congratulations to the whole cast and crew on a hard 6 months of filming in Malaysia. Thanks to Jamie’s co-star Alin Sumarwata for posting this image of her, Jamie and some of the crew whilst filming at Mulligan’s Pub in Johor Bahru early last month. Photo posted 5th October 2018.
With the series now having wrapped filming, we thought we would collect everything that we have found out about the series so far.
So, what is this series about? Well, as with the other series', season 7 will be taking place in a completely different location to the previous one. Season 6 was filmed around places such as Hungary, whereas this series has been filmed entirely in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Though we will let the official synopsis provided by Sky One tell you all about it:
When a Russian jet crashes in the South China Sea, Section 20 are sent in to investigate. They find themselves both coming into conflict and being forced to work alongside rogue Russian operative Katrina Zarkova, who is on the trail of the same mystery as them.
The group are assigned a new Commanding Officer – the veteran Coltrane – and pursue the stolen contents of the Russian jet across South East Asia. They will work alongside the Malaysian police to shut down a Triad gang in Kuala Lumpur, uncover a corrupt plot by a wealthy Indian businesswoman who is running for Parliament, and plunge into the jungles of the Golden Triangle in Myanmar. All whilst facing off against mercenary drug agents and terrifying warlords, as they uncover a conspiracy that threatens to push the world to the brink of global conflict.
They’ll need to work alongside their new Russian ally Katrina, but her loyalties and goals might not be what they first appear… What if the one person you can’t trust is the person you need to survive?
When does it start?
There has been no official air date as of yet, though the Sky One Press Release states early 2019 as being the start. Though, we doubt they would lie, but going by the the majority of other series, it could air as early as late November in the UK.
Who's in this series and who are they playing?
The Section
Jamie will be playing Section 20's new Commanding Officer, Colonel Alexander Coltrane as he takes over the duties from Nina Sosanya (who played Col. Adeena Donovan last series). Other than being a Veteran, nothing else is unfortunately known about the character.
He'll be commanding the team of Series 6: Warren Brown as Sergeant Thomas “Mac” McAllister, Daniel MacPherson as Sergeant Samuel Wyatt and Alin Sumarwata as Lance Corporal Gracie Novin.
Taking over communication duties from Will Jensen (played by Phil Dunster), actress Varada Sethu will be playing Chetri who now takes charge of the tech equipment in The Crib.
They will come across Russian Katrina Zarkova who is being played by Turkish actress, Yasemin Kay-Allen. (This means that Roxanne McKee is NOT returning as Captain Natalie Reynolds)
Other Characters
Former Waterloo Road actor, Alec Newman has been cast as Pavel Kuragin; judging by his name sounding rather Russian, we imagine that he is possibly the bad guy in this series, but again, this is not confirmed. But he has been present during all of the blocks so it's likely that is the case.
Jamie's Marcella co-star, Victoria Smurfit confirmed on social media that she is appearing in a couple of episodes as DEA Agent, Lauren Gillespie.
Rudi Dharmalingham is playing Gopan, Pallavi Sharda as Samira, Niko Rusakov and Eion O'Brien as Androv and Sergey, Kelly B.Jones as Madison, Faizal Hussein will be playing Hassan Ahmed. Aidan McArdle, Marama Corlett, Alex Waldmann and Shavani Ghai have also confirmed in unidentified roles.
Filming Locations
Filming has taken place all over Malaysia. A majority of their filming have taken place at the Pinewood Studios they have over there. Though they’ve also filmed on location in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru and Kulai. Specifically, Jamie filmed in a bar called Mulligans in early September and they also spent time filming in a jungle. It also appears that the promo picture was taken on top of the Heli Lounge Bar in Bukit Bintang.
Keeping Up To Date
Even though filming has now wrapped, you can still keep up to date by following many of the cast and crew over on Instagram and Twitter as they are likely to post pictures leading up to, during and after the series airs. Feel free to message us if you want any single links as it would take a while to go through them all on a list here.
