Secretariat Seemandhra staff begins strike
Hyderabad: The ongoing agitation of Seemandhra employees working in the State Secretariat took a new turn this morning as around 1,800 employees went on strike from the midnight of Monday. They are demanding that the Centre must refrain from dividing the State.
Speaking to Postnoon, the president of Secretariat seemandhra employees union, U Murali Krishna, said that employees from all grades — from attender to officer — rank will completely boycott their work and participate in the strike.
“We are ready to lose to our salaries for a couple of days for the sake of future generations,” he said.
Seemandhra employees had served strike notice to Chief Secretary PK Mohanty last month and had notified September 3 as the commencement date. They plan to continue their agitation till a favourable decision is taken by the Centre.
T-employees gear up for challenge
On the other hand, the Telangana employees have decided to put in extra hours of work to reduce the effect of the strike. Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee (JAC) chairman Narendor Rao said that every Telangana employee would chip in to see that the crucial work of various departments was not stalled. “We are ready for the challenge. We will take the burden of our counterparts by working overtime. This will continue till they withdraw their strike,” he said.
A half-day long sit-in protest programme of Seemandhra Congress ministers and other public representatives began in Assembly premises this morning. A total of 10 Cabinet ministers and around 50 public representatives such as MLAs and MLCs participated in it. The strike is being held as an expression of solidarity to the ongoing agitation of Seemandhra people.
