i have something that i wanted to bring up for a long, long time.

"Strilec" is not the right romanisation/transliteration of Strelok's name from Ukrainian to English, but it's not wrong either. it's just the Polish translation

the right romanisation of his name is Strilets and Striletskyi Palvo Kostiantynovych, according to the Ukrainian State migration service website. you can check it yourself here

please use Strilets too. it's the (more) right romanisation

why? well, look at the lyrics. now look at Strilets and at Degtyaryov.

i say that Strilets looks like someone who has a very big German vocabulary and can switch to swearing on German out of the blue. Degtyaryov, on the other hand, reminds me of a German Shepherd or someone who'd own one (SBU gave it to him, to sniff for artifacts for example). also, both have likely learnt German in school.

also, the part "I hate you - I love you" suits them quite well. both of them can say both of these phrases.

let's not forget that they're middle-aged Ukrainian men, which means that internal homophobia is at VERY high levels, and if Strilets may have already made terms with his sexuality, Degtyaryov looks like someone who'd deny it till the very end.

in scenario number one it is Degtyaryov who says "I hate you". because Strilets is a rat, a viper, a bastard, a tempter. he tempts him into what he, and their society, considers an illness, considers freaky. and Degtyaryov almost likes it. Strilets definitely likes it -- it's almost funny to watch, will Degtyaryov submit to his true desires? to Strilets and his will? that's why he'd grin and say "Ich liebe dich".

in scenario number two, Strilets pushes Degtyaryov away. he knows he's going to be locked in the capsule and, likely, for forever. so he hurts him, intentionally, he says he hates him, his sodomic guts. Degtyaryov is hurt--but he knows its an act. he knows Strilets is thinking of doing something stupid. so he tried to stop him -- by saying that he loves him.
