I’m Not Back Yet, but I’d just like to tell you about this thing that made me really happy.
This is String of Fates, a visual novel game I found while searching for something new (and quick) to play. The summary goes: Help a guy confess to his sweetheart on Valentines Day!
The art is super cute and it seems simple enough, so I sat down and finished the whole thing. It was... amazing.
((spoilers, obvs))
So, I played it, right? And while playing, all I could think about was how his best friend has the cutest??? smile??? when talking to him. His best friend, Jett, is all stoic lazy boy but as soon as Andy (the main chara) say anything adorable, he goes ALL SOFT. THE SOFTEEEEST.
I was screaming THIS COULD BE GAYER at my screen.
The girl Andy is confessing to doesn’t even remember his name!!! Jett is super nice and give him gifts on Valentines Day!!! Kaya is super chill and she has a point when she says “You don’t even know me. You can’t like me.”
I knew something was up. Something smelled fishy af. There MUST BE an ending where you get together with Jett. It’s just... the logical ending to this... Jett even says really vague pining lines that made me want to hug him ;;
After every “rejection” from Kaya, you get a choice to either “go to a new timeline” to repeat everything and find a way to make her say yes, or “back to this timeline” to stay where you are. If you give up, you get nothing.
No matter what I chose, Kaya rejected me. Three times, I died. One time, she died. One time, we got married and the main character lived the most Perfect life to the point of it being horror-themed. None of this was a happy ending for the main chara;
save for one ending where Kaya and Andy ends up having a “pickup line” contest and ends up becoming friends instead.
But that still wasn’t the ending I was looking for. It felt like maybeeee I was imagining the bff-factor.
Except.
Except when you’ve gone through all possible ending then choose the Stay in this timeline option...
That’s when you get the True Ending... which is...
THE TRUE END IS THE GAY ENDING
NOT ONLY THAT: IT’S THE TRUE mlm / wlw SOLIDARITY CONTENT I WANT:
It ends with Andy making chocolates for Jett!! And Kaya helping him out!!! Because they’re BEST FRIENDS NOW!!!!!!
And the reason why Kaya never said yes to Andy’s confession???
