Classical Music for Beginners
*I mean that people who don't like or aren't familiar with classical music tend to say "it doesn't sound like music" so these are works that have clear melodies, themes or stories*
- The Nutcracker Ballet by Tchaikovsky (just listen to the whole album like a soundtrack)
- Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland (a whole album but each movement represents something in nature)
- Chopin's Nocturnes (just put them on in the background to create The Vibe)
- Beethoven's String Quartet in C# Minor but only Movement 6 (sadddd but gives you major feels)
- Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber (again very sad but makes you feel like the main character)
- Dvorak String Quartet No. 12 in F Major "American" but just Movement 3
- Georges Bizet: you'll definitely recognize pieces from Carmen (an opera) like the Habanera. Here's some music from it, in two Suites. He also wrote L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1 and L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2. I like Movement 2 (Minuetto) and 4 (Carillon) of Suite No. 1, especially the middle section.
- An American in Paris by Leonard Bernstein (the guy who wrote West Side Story... and that's all I need to say.)
*Also, I find I have to listen to pieces a few times to become familiar with them, the first few times might just be as background noise.*
I haven't practiced since last week, so go easy...
This is the "second" Alla Breve section in the Koussevitzky Concerto for Double Bass, I'm really trying to focus on making this passage super fluid and connected without losing the intense musicality
classic fm wants you all to know that even though that hot gym guy can pick you up, a violinist can finger bang the shit outta you
Strings when they mess up
violin 1: what is this, 7th position?!
violin 2: the tremolos go on for 21 bars though!
violas: *counting 30 bars of rests*
cellos: there are ShIfTs!
double basses: it’s all the same. And it’s barely audible anyway.
my friend brought something to my attention today

you’re welcome

What kind of strings do you use?
these ones! I used to use the prelude ones (for like the first 4 years of playing lmao) but these, even though they’re a little more expensive are definitely worth it, they have a really good sound and are pretty reasonable especially for string students.
Am I funny yet?
