Originally formed in Boston, MA back in 2008, Stroamata began as a trip-hop/psychedelic soul act but upon their relocation to New York and the addition of Dorothy "Dara" Eagle (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) to a lineup that already included Rob Morrison (lead guitar),  Akil Marshall (bass), and Alexander Markowitz (drums and backing vocals), the band went through a massive change in sonic direction. The material the then-newly formed quartet began to write took on an industrial rock feel and sound; in fact, over the last couple of years, the band's sound has been compared to the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, Florence and the Machine and others, and they've seen praise from the likes of Creem Magazine, Impose Magazine, For the Love of Punk and others. 

Their latest single "A Fantasy" is comprised of shimmering, slightly Eastern-tinged guitars, throbbing bass and propulsive drumming paired with Eagle's gorgeous vocals. In some way, the song reminds me a little bit of the moody, giallo-inspired sound of My Gold Mask and of Siouxsie and the Banshees.
