The Stronsay Beast was a globster that washed ashore on the island of Stronsay, Scotland, in 1808. A newspaper called The Orcadian described it as such: “Its flesh was described as being like 'coarse, ill-coloured beef, entirely covered with fat and tallow and without the least resemblance or affinity to fish'. The skin, which was grey coloured and had an elastic texture was said to be about two inches thick in parts.”
The mysterious carcass was said to measure in at 55 feet long and even then, it was missing the end of its tail so it would have been longer. Researchers believe that the creature could have been a decomposing basking shark. The largest recorded basking shark was around 40 feet long. If the Stronsay Beast was a basking shark, it would have definitely been an incredible discovery being that large.
