love loop {one} myg
that pesky little thing called fate really is a bitch.
pairing: min yoongi x reader
tag / warnings: some cursing
author note: sorry for being gone for so long! life happened. but i’m back with our favorite mint haired boy, min yoongi. this chapter really is an opener for the oc and her life. watch out for a certain mint haired boy. i hope you enjoy <3
The red string of fate. That pesky little thing called destiny that was tied to another person and locked in an eternal circle; a love loop. The very thing that changed the trajectory of my life, that blossomed chance and coincidence, that pushed me onto a different path and had me headed towards an individual that was about to make my life a living hell.
It was like the world had become suffocating and the days seemed to stretch endlessly and blur together in a way that made me anxious. It was times like these that made my head spin as I tried my hardest to look past the haze and fog that somehow became a permanent resident in my head to think of the last time I had even eaten anything. The listless weeks that stretched on seemed to always end like this; questions bogging down my body and mind until I just couldn’t take it anymore and would eventually let myself fall into a restless slumber. Life had become one long spin cycle and I was starting to feel like there was really no exit sign to the monotony of it all.
But, in all reality, it really was all my fault.
I’d lost the only thing I’d ever really cared about when the company I’d started to work for after college got bought out by a larger one. They dissolved my department and thus all the workers in it. I’d been surviving on endless cup noodles and cold tea ever since as I bounced around from one part time job to another just to make the bills on time. If it hadn’t been for some of the leftovers from my cafe job as the owner took pity on me, I think I would have at one point or another completely starved to death.
As if, I thought bitterly as I wiped down the last table of my shift, I’d ever be so lucky.
The sound of the clock was alarming as it ticked...ticked...ticked...ever so slowly and it was all my mind could process as I tried too hard to let the time pass without obsession. This night needed to be done and over with. This month was the coldest of the year so far and the dreary sky outside did nothing to help with the depressive mood that succumbed me. As much as I tried endlessly to think of anything else, it was futile. The gurgle in my stomach proved as much as I sighed as realization hit that I’d more than likely have to walk all the way home to afford a hot meal or sacrifice dinner for some fleeting warmth. As much as the owners of the small cafe let me have my fair share of meals, it was by no means a solution to the issues I found plaguing me at the end of every day and I would by no means take advantage of their kind hospitality. It was, after all, all my fault I found myself in this mess.
I couldn’t help but sigh a long and aggravated breath. Art and design, I thought sourly again. Who was I to think that I could pull that off? That I would actually have a life and a career out of something like that? It was thoughts like these that occupied my mind a lot these days as the clock continued to tick...tick...tick and I continued to berate myself so much that I felt hot tears forming at the corner of my eyelids. The department I had worked in had been so small that it was only made up of a handful of people and I had been so elated when I got that job, thinking that life was actually starting to look up from everything I’d been through before, only to realize a beat too late that a happy ending just wasn't in the cards for me it seemed. At least, I thought as I tossed the rag I had been holding down, not in something I loved.
“You’re free to go, dear.” Kyung-Hu, the owner of the cafe, patted the top of my head to gain my attention and snap me out of my sulk fest. He was a greying old man who had taken pity upon me when he found me sleeping at the bus stop a street over from the cafe front. He’d been letting me work crazy hours to try and afford to be a human ever since. “Try not to fall asleep this time, yeah?” Despite my foul mood, I could never ever deny that Kyung-Hu and his wife, Ji-hyun, had saved me in a time when I was at my lowest. I felt a smile willingly break out on my chapped lips as his eyes crinkled when he did the same.
“Are you sure? You don’t need me to close with you tonight?” I watched as he sighed, shaking his head as he patted mine again. In most cases it felt that Kyung-Hu and Ji-hyun treated me like I was one of their children. Something that, although I would stubbornly never admit to, made being alone in this big city not so bad. Thinking that I also thought of my own parents and how, the last time we’d spoken, things didn’t go so well.
“Go home. Get some rest, okay? This old man will be fine to close alone.”
“If you’re sure.” I couldn’t help but smile again despite my disappointment that he was sending me home. Even though I wanted the night to be over with, that didn’t mean that I wanted to leave the free heat or leave the old man by himself. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Gramps.” He laughed at the nickname as the bell over the door signaled that we had a customer as I turned around to walk towards the back room; thoughts wholly preoccupied with the dilemma that faced me and no longer any concerns for customers since the old man had freed me of my duty to care.
Food or warmth? I wracked my brain, going back and forth. Food or warmth? Would I rather walk an hour in the slushy cold or have a full belly? Sighing, I picked up my belongings and walked back out onto the floor, no closer towards an outcome of food or warmth or, really, anything to solve any problem in my life as the list was vastly long and overwhelming. The only thing I could be thankful for in that moment was the warmth the cafe was gifting me as I was currently trying my hardest to remain inside the slower and slower I walked towards the bitter air outside.
The cafe, Fleur de Seoul, was small and tucked away in an endless row of buildings that housed everything from karaoke bars to office spaces. It was in a good neighborhood and was very popular amongst the twenty-somethings and young business crowd for it’s endless layers of nostalgia for a fairytale-like space - walls covered in art, a book exchange tucked in the corner underneath a news clipping of their opening that, no matter how many times you tried, would never hang on the wall straight. Dried flowers hung from the ceiling so the whole place was coated in a field of beauty and smelt like heaven with the notes of coffee and flowers wafting every which way. It was nice, nestled underneath ivy and baby's breath that Kyung-Hu liked to freshen every other week and it was by all means my second home. I had started to sit inside on days where I had nothing else to do but bum the heat off the old man when I couldn’t afford to get mine turned back on, get a cup of hot tea and sketch for hours until I had to walk back to my cold ass hole in the wall.
I couldn’t help but curse as my thoughts were stuck, dreading the thought of what I was going back to. So lost in thought, in fact, that I didn’t notice the mint haired boy narrowly miss me as I passed through the cafe unaware that despite not really believing in coincidences, the red string of fate was tugging at my pinky as I tried my best to drown myself in layers of clothing to bite off the nipping and inevitable cold. I needed to be reminded that, while fully unaware that my trajectory of life was about to completely change, fate was in fact a cruel bitch who was out to get me.

I couldn’t help but pace the bedroom in a silent panicked state.
After the unexpected kiss I’d pushed Namjoon off me and ran out of the kitchen as fast as my legs would carry me. Something about his lips felt so shockingly familiar that it scared me into fleeing. The kiss was short but warm and comforting and everything I didn’t want to feel. My feelings about him had changed...right? I didn’t want this anymore…did I? The more and more I thought about it the more and more I doubted myself and my resolve to be done with this relationship.
His body pressed up against mine made me lean more into the kiss than I had wanted to admit to and my legs and arms reacted on their own; distancing myself from him like normal so I could run completely in the opposite direction. His smell engulfed me even as I walked back and forth across the floor willing myself very ineffectively to try to think of anything but what had just happened.
He kissed me.
He actually kissed me.
And, the most shocking of all, I had enjoyed it.
Confusion set in and I couldn’t help but let a shaky hand reach up to touch my lips in a weirdly giddy state. They were hot and I could still feel what the kiss felt like; tingling and perfect. Tracing my lips I began to wonder when was the last time he had done such a thing? When was the last time I’d seen such a tender but forward moment?
It was driving me crazy to say the least and I couldn’t help but lay on our dreary and once cold shared bed to close my eyes and relive the warm moment over and over until I fell into a restless slumber plagued by dark dreams and nightmares that left me in a sheen of sweat when I woke up the next morning way later than I had in a long time. I couldn’t help but sit in the quiet for a long moment as I regained my surroundings. All these nightmares had started to haunt me the second I’d told Namjoon I no longer thought we should be together and they were really starting to wear me down and alter my whole being.
Lips still tingling from the previous night, I couldn’t help but feel nervous and slightly embarrassed as I slowly exited our room to check on Yumi and silently praying to myself that I wouldn’t run into Namjoon. To my surprise, however, she wasn’t there. When I quickly checked the rest of the apartment it was to my shock that she was nowhere to be found along, it seemed, with Namjoon.
I sighed a deep breath I didn’t know I had been holding once I realized that I wouldn’t have to face him just yet. Just the simple thought of coming close to Namjoon now sent chills up my spine, heat to my cheeks and a pull in my belly I hadn’t felt in such a long time, the notion completely scared me practically immobile. Put on the back burner for the moment since he was nowhere to be found, I tried my hardest to let myself relax for the first time in a long time as I boiled some water for tea.
Plagued by endless thoughts I couldn’t help but pace the kitchen as the water boiled. What was going on with me? I couldn’t help but wonder. Why was I letting Namjoon have this kind of hold over me still? It was only a month ago that I told him we should no longer be together and yet, there I was nervously waiting for his return while I continued to trace my lips as my heartbeat sped up at the thought of kissing him again. The thrill had been so intense in that moment that it completely encompassed me and I couldn’t shake the feeling as much as I tried and wanted to.
It really had been such a long time since I felt his lips on me in that way and it was shocking, to say the least, that it was making me feel fidgety the more and more I thought about it. I really didn’t know what was going on anymore and I was as confused as ever as I finally sat there, drinking my tea slightly on edge, when the door opening signaled that they were back home.
“Momma!” Yumi yelled as soon as she rounded the corner of the hallway; shedding her jacket and scarf along the way. She was utterly beaming and just seeing her happy made me smile. Her cheeks were flushed a light shade of pink, her smile wide and beaming, and my heart just burst the more and more I looked at her. So much of her DNA resembled Namjoon and, right now while I really studied her movements and the kiss picked at my thoughts, I couldn’t help but feel guilty.
“Love where have you been?” She jumped into my arms as she found me and I couldn’t help but feel the sudden urge to cry. So many things I’d done just for her and now, looking back at all the trouble I’d started simply by telling Namjoon how I had been feeling, made me feel even more of a disappointment and rotten than I’d ever had before. I just wanted the absolute best for her and now I was really starting to doubt everything that I had done to this point to try and give it to her.
“Surprise! We got you a surprise, Momma!” Yumi shouted as she wriggled herself out of my grasp and was gone in the next instant leaving me sitting in the kitchen alone again. “Come on!” Frowning at her words as I got up to follow her I couldn’t help but be utterly confused as I made my way deeper into the apartment and towards the living room where, I could only assume, she was waiting.
“Yumi?” I called but received no answer as I came suddenly across not her but Namjoon standing there with his hands behind his back. “Oh,” I said awkwardly as he just smiled at me looking as delicious as he had last night. Tall and broad, cheeks dusted the same pink as Yumi’s had been from the cold outside, sweater stretched across his chest in a way that made my hand itch to run across it. I swallowed down the lump in my throat at the sight. “Hi.” I managed lamely.
“Hey,” Timidly he took a step forward. God he was so delectable. The more and more I thought about his body on mine, his lips on mine, the more and more it took my whole being not to throw myself across the little room that was left between us and close that gap. “We got these for you.” And just like that, my frown was replaced with what could only be described as a truly happy smile, as Namjoon presented me with a bouquet of fresh flowers. Mixtures of all different kinds filled the bundle and immediately I could smell the aroma they gave off. I could feel it, though, in the middle of this simple and happy moment and gesture, the tears prickle at the corner of my eyes. “Just like you like.” He was saying again as I stared down at the flowers in my hands. “Sorry it took so long for me to get you these again.” Something about the way he said it made me feel as though he wanted to add more but instead stayed quiet as I processed the moment and what was happening.
Under the gaze of his stare I couldn’t help but feel all the emotions flooding back at me; endless memories of all the familiar times that I felt this overwhelmingly elated feeling.
He brought me flowers.
When was the last time he’d done such a thing? Long before this moment, that was for sure. It used to be my favorite thing that he’d do. Always, it seemed, that no matter how long he was going for he would always bring me a bouquet back from his day. Always. It was our thing that he would always do, especially after I gave up my dream of owning my own flower shop to raise our daughter. I was never really sure why they stopped coming from him but I also never asked; leaving it to be one of the always vague memories I had with him in the more recent years of our marriage. But then here he was, the gesture meaning more to me than any words could ever, and I couldn’t help but look at him with tears in my eyes blurring my vision as I utterly beamed.
“Look,” He was talking again and I could feel the tears welling up enough that they were spilling down my face. “I know you said you didn’t think we should be together anymore and while I acknowledge your feelings, I can’t help but think that they are wrong. I know we haven’t been on the best of terms and I’ve been gone a lot but,” He stepped closer and I could smell him all around me making my head spin. “But I want to fight for you. I want to prove to you that you belong with me. That we should always be together. That...that,” I tensed in surprise as he placed his hands on my shoulders, bringing his lips down to the top of my head for a brief but lingering kiss. And as I leaned into the kiss he spoke again with words that melted me more than I’d ever like to admit. “That I love you.”
The words smacked me quicker than I expected them too and I was starting to get light headed. While it was all I wanted to hear those three words also scared me to death as they held so much weight and power.
He still loved me.
After everything and all the doubt I had, he still loved me. And he wanted to fight for me.
I was crying before I knew it and after looking at him with what I could only assume was the most pathetic expression ever, he was engulfing me in his arms and I could feel myself pressing against him trying to get closer and closer and closer. I couldn’t remember the last time he’d held me like this and I didn’t want to give it up just yet. I wanted to mold myself into him and stay there as long as I possibly could. I could feel it when I hugged him back; the weight of everything slowly and completely lift off of me and all I wanted to do was have him carry me anywhere as long as we were together.
I never wanted him to let go.
“It’s okay,” He was saying over and over as he placed kisses along my hairline. “It’s okay.” But I continued to sob into his chest until it felt like all the salt in my body had been expunged.
“Namjoon,” I tried but my voice cracked. I took a long moment to really look at him, thinking of Yumi and how she looked earlier, thinking of my little and broken family and how the years hadn’t been kind to us but here we still were, holding onto each other so desperately it hurt. We were just two people trying to make sense of this cracked and imperfect mess but we were lucky in a way because we still had each other.
Realization hit me in that moment that I never wanted to let go of him as much as I pushed him away and all I ever wanted was for him to want me back and feel the press of him against me as that assurance I needed so desperately.
“Hummm,” He was drying my face with his thumbs as he gently held my cheeks in his large hands; fingers cold against my warm and flushed face.
“I love you too.” I choked out, and just like that, flowers forgotten on the couch next to us, his lips were on mine in a fever rush and my hands were roaming everywhere they could.
I was so hungry and starved and I wanted more of him in every way I could think. It was true that I still felt all the feelings I had been feeling; the loss and loneliness and the bitterness at Namjoon for not being there when I needed him. But I couldn’t deny the simple fact that yes, I loved him more than words could express and I was, at that moment in time, completely and utterly melted into him that I never wanted him to separate from me and let me go.

I wasn’t sure what was worse; living in a fever dream of a marriage or living in a silent one. Since the night Namjoon found out truly how I had been feeling and that I believed we no longer should be together anymore, our daily lives had started to shift and it really was starting to bother me in a way I wasn’t quite sure why. I still put Yumi’s needs before everything - stuck to my routine of cleaning, cooking and caring for my daughter practically alone - but now the days dragged on even longer than they ever had before and Namjoon would not talk to me.
It wasn’t that I’d overtly tried to talk to him either, but it was very clear that he was avoiding me at all costs. In the past month I’d maybe caught a glimpse of his face a handful of times but only in passing and it was making me uneasy which only bothered me more.
Wasn’t this exactly what I wanted?
Why did it suddenly feel like I was even more isolated than before?
The mornings were early and the nights were late and on the days where Namjoon couldn’t be at the label, the studio door was kept locked tightly shut with him hunkered down inside. He never came to bed after that confession and instead resolved to sleep either at one of the boys' places or in the studio if they forced him to go home. I only knew of that fact because, despite the ever growing abyss that was sucking me and my husband down into it, I still was on fairly good terms with the rest of the men in my life.
“You know,” Yoongi said after we’d just gotten coffee at our favorite spot. The cafe, Cafe Cache, was only known to those who had stumbled upon it. If you didn’t know it was there you never would have even seen it since it was tucked beneath an overhang of ivy, the faded green door blended in so smoothly it was as if it wasn’t even there at all. We’d stumbled upon it one day after Yoongi and I decided to try every coffee spot in town to decipher which pot would ultimately win and be dubbed the best. It had been a happy accident of myself tripping over a root in the tree blocking the front of the shop and stumbling into the worn in door. We’d been going there ever since his late debut days to the point the shopkeeper knew our orders by heart.
I had not been all that surprised to see Yoongi’s name pop up on my phone a few weeks into Namjoon’s late night charade and I begrudgingly answered despite the fact that I knew he was going to force me out of my cocoon of solitude to talk. “You really should just have an actual conversation with him.” He continued as we soaked up the warmth of the cafe. The bitter air outside was matching my attitude toward this entire conversation and the fact that Yoongi was making me face the very things I had been worried about facing was making it even worse.
“Been there, done that.” I rolled my eyes as I waved him off and Yoongi frowned at me in his signature pouty style. Despite Namjoon’s insistent need to keep everyone away from me, he’d always liked how close I was with some of the members of the group. I’d known them all for as long as I could remember since I’d been with Namjoon for just about longer than that. Particularly Yoongi and I had gotten the closest out of the bunch for his love of my homemade japchae during the later part of their trainee days when I would send some back to the dorm with Namjoon and for our sarcastic tendencies when around all the members. Because of our close relationship he knew he didn’t have to mince words with me, he could tell it to me straight and he, above all else, could be trusted to have my best interests at heart.
“You know what I mean.” He retorted back, never missing a beat. Yoongi could always be counted on to pull me out of my head and make me actually talk about things for a change. He was one of the people I held most dear in my life for so many reasons but mostly because, aside from what Namjoon used to be, he was my best friend. “Quit the cat and mouse game. Just go and talk to him. Really talk to him.” Being as blunt as ever, I couldn’t help but sigh at his response. I knew he was right and it pissed me off.
“Yoongi, I tried. Literally just that. And it didn’t work.” We found ourselves at the counter bar, mixing our drinks to their desired taste, and I immediately grabbed a handful of sugar packets, my ever growing sweet tooth taking over the better part of my brain. My hands were slightly shaking as Yoongi began to talk, sighing as he stirred a small amount of milk into his black coffee. It wasn’t that I didn’t want his advice but the more we talked about Namjoon the more I was starting to really lose it and could feel myself getting more and more frustrated at the situation I had created for myself.
It wasn’t as if my feelings had suddenly changed again and it wasn’t as if I was having a change of heart, but the more and more Namjoon avoided me the more and more lonely and frustrated I felt. If I thought him being away was bad, having him right down the hall was even worse. Especially when it was all radio silence; static that was making me go crazy.
“No, you both are being foolish and full of emotion. Be more pragmatic about the issue.” He paused to sip his coffee and to avoid my eyes as he continued. “You know, whatever that issue may be.” He shrugged as if it wasn’t a big deal, as if this whole situation wasn’t making me completely feel like a dying star caving in on itself.
“Oh please,” Stirring the seventh packet of sugar into my cup, I couldn’t help but frown looking back down at my cream colored liquid. “Don’t act like you don’t know exactly what was said. I know he tells you just about everything.”
“Then,” He swatted my hand from grabbing the next packet of sugar and really looked at me. It was still odd and a little jarring to see him so genuinely interested in a topic that involved my love life to this day since most thought Yoongi was cold and calculated in every situation but that wasn’t necessarily the case. At least, not with the people he cared about. “You know that I’m right.”
I let out a sigh I didn’t know I had been holding as I contemplated his words. “Why can’t he come and talk to me then? Huh? You know all this is his fault.” I retorted, sullen and mad that Yoongi was trying to get me to go to Namjoon when what I really wanted was for him to come to me. Why was this so hard? Why would my husband not talk to me? Despite the fact of the words that were exchanged, I wanted to feel like he wanted to fight for me at least. Especially after the words that were said, how he begged me not to leave and I did just that - stayed. Why wasn’t Namjoon fighting for his family?
“All this fault? Please. You’re smarter than this.” He ticked disapprovingly at me while he shook his inky haired head and we began to exit the tiny cafe, avoiding all the tree roots in the process. “You could have spoken up more about how you were feeling. Don’t solely put the blame on one person. To me, the way I see it, is you both are just being hard headed. You both clearly love each other otherwise you still wouldn’t be at the apartment. You’d be at your parents house in Mokpo and Namjoon would be selling the apartment to get rid of the memories. But,” He continued as we walked, the bitter cold making the warmth from the coffee cure our shivers. “You both are still there for the most part. You both are still being stubborn. And you both,” He sighed, clearly done. “Are annoying the shit out of me.”
“Hey,” I laughed a bit as we came to a stop on the side of the street to rest on a park bench. “You’re the one that dragged me out of a perfectly good solace thank you very much.”
We had been walking for a few minutes to our favorite park and as we sat down so many memories were flooding back. I couldn’t help but relive the details of Yoongi and myself discovering this bench the first time we’d decided it would be a good idea to gorge ourselves on all you could eat gogi and the mess we’d gotten ourselves into, it seemed, after we’d eaten so much to the point we were both sick. This bench had seen everything; from me crying on his shoulder when I found out Namjoon would be leaving for the better part of two years, when I found out I was pregnant and was too scared to tell anyone other than Yoongi, when we’d been so drunk we couldn’t walk and kept laughing over the dumbest of things, almost puking behind it before calling a taxi to go home. It appeared that, with everything going on, I’d been in much more of a hazy and fogged state than I had realized with all the dusty memories deciding to resurface lately. It seemed that no matter how much I wanted to forget so many things from the past and move on, they were going to catch up to me no matter what.
It was still so odd to be sitting there with him despite the fact that I felt total comfort at the same time. I hadn’t seen him in so long and I forgot that Yoongi had this way about him that always made me feel welcome which used to shock the other members since he never really showed an interest in any of the girls the members brought home over the many years. I was different though, he had said, and that made my heart soar every time we were around each other. It was also quite jarring that Namjoon supported our close friendship. He didn’t mind that we would talk on the phone, texted constantly, and would go on outings like this where we just talked about life.
“Eh I wanted to check in. You know,” He sighed deeply this time and studied my face before offering a gummy smile that made my insides thaw. “Namjoon isn’t my only friend. You’re my friend too.”
“Aww, how sentimental. Are you growing soft on me Yoongs?” He rolled his eyes at me before the smile on his face disappeared into his deadpanned one.
“Shut up and drink your diabetes in a cup.” The banter continued like that for sometime while we sat on the bench long after the sunset like two old men on a porch swing; staring into the silent lives of all the people that passed us, contemplating who was going where, what they were doing and who, we wondered, were they going to meet.
Later, when Yoongi was called away to deal with his own life and I’d sat on the bench much longer than intended, I stalked home begrudgingly. It was odd, the sensation I had in the pit of my stomach as I trekked down the hallway towards the studio door only to find it open. It was as if butterflies were trying to use their fluttering wings to cut through my stomach lining. Where was Namjoon lurking if not in the studio? I was finding myself too nervous to find out when I heard something from within the apartment.
“Hyung, what am I supposed to do?” The voice startled me since it had been four weeks since I had heard it and I jumped unknowingly as my body continued to betray me.
“You know what you’re supposed to do Namjoon, why are you asking me?”
“Because...because I still love her and she wants nothing to do with me.”
“Aish,” I heard Seokjin say under his breath. I would know that voice anywhere and it appeared that Namjoon was residing in the kitchen with him. “You are so frustrating. Just go and talk to your wife.”
“But she wants nothing to do with me! She made that very clear. What is there even to say? Oh let’s get divorced? No, absolutely not. I won’t accept it. I will not talk to her because that is what she’s going to say and I don’t want that.” Something irked inside of me at the mention of divorce. It loomed over my head like a rain cloud out of nowhere and it really bothered me in a way that made me nervous. What was wrong with me?
“Have you ever even considered that this isn’t about what you want?” Seokjin sighed again, exasperated. “What did she tell you, huh? That she didn’t know herself. That she couldn’t be with you because you are always gone and you feel like a stranger to her. She didn’t mention divorce.”
“But she did say we shouldn’t be together.”
“And look,” He paused slightly. It sounded as if he was stuffing his face full of some kind of food. “She’s still here isn’t she? And besides, if you actually love her then get off your ass and go and talk to her. Fix this issue. You don’t want to be a stranger to her? Then don’t be. It’s pretty simple really. Now,” He paused. “Pass me that kimbap.”
Feeling as though I had just heard a very private conversation I tried my best to sneak past the kitchen unseen but, as luck would have it, I failed tripping over one of Yumi’s forgotten toys.
“Look who it is!” Seokjin yelled, making me jump in the process as he clapped his hands together. My eyes met Namjoon briefly and I could tell from across the room that his face was flushed a light crimson color as if I’d just pounced in on their conversation which he was flustered about. Which, despite the fact that I unintentionally did, was jarring to me. Who was Namjoon becoming that he got so easily embarrassed by my presence? “Come and eat!”
“It’s okay,” I tried. “I don’t want to impose-”
“Don’t be like that. I haven’t seen you in a year, get in here.” Truth dripped from his mouth in a way that made me feel so sullen that I entered the kitchen despite not wanting to necessarily be around Namjoon. They were sitting opposite each other at our kitchen table and gorging themselves on a variety of foods it seemed; laughing and talking before things got serious I could tell since there were soju bottles lining the edge of the table.
“I forgot how loud you could be.” I meant to think it but instead it came out of my mouth a bit louder than I would have liked and Seokjin nearly spit out his drink everywhere from laughing. I had forgotten how exuberant he could be, especially when slightly intoxicated, and it made me smile. Namjoon was looking dead at me as this all occurred and it made those pesky little butterflied kick back up at full speed. Being in the same room with him after so long of not even seeing his face was making me overheat and I felt flushed for some odd reason.
What was happening to me? I thought I didn’t want anything to do with him and yet, after seeing Yoongi and now Seokjin, my mind could only process one thing: how good it felt to have them all back around me.
“What are you guys eating?” I asked timidly.
“My homemade kimbap and some kimchi my family sent me. Now,” He patted the spot next to him that was across from Namjoon as he pushed a bunch of empty snack bags out of the way. Shaky and nervous I made my way towards him. “Sit next to me. Let’s drink!”
It didn’t slip by me when I sat down that Seokjin shot Namjoon with a knowing look before jerking his head in my direction. If I was a different person, maybe I would have initiated some kind of conversation, but with Namjoon and Seokjin both looking now in my direction it left me speechless.
“Hey,” Namjoon started, grabbing a bottle of my favorite flavor soju and cracking it open. I watched as he grabbed an empty cup, pouring it full to the brim before handing it over to me. I took it without hesitation, figuring getting a little drunk might take the edge off, and shivered slightly as our fingertips brushed. He was blushing again I could see and I was mostly certain it wasn’t just from the alcohol.
“Excuse me guys, duty calls.” Seokjin interrupted lifting himself up from the table and walking down the hall and towards the bathroom. I waited until he was fully gone, hearing the click of the door for good measure, before I mustered up the courage to look directly at Namjoon. He was sitting there, face unshaven and scruffy, hair a total mess, a stain on a white tee he was wearing that showed off his newly acquired arm muscles and, my God, did he look so unbelievably attractive.
“Hey,” I managed back a beat too late. Namjoon just scratched the back of his head before he pushed the plate of kimbap towards me.
“Please eat.” He said quietly. “It’s delicious.”
“I bet.” The small talk, as few words spoken as we both could manage, was already killing me. Being in this proximity of him was heating my face and body to a degree that was making me squirm underneath his stare. I took a shot of my drink before looking up at Namjoon again. The liquid hit me like fire and I was hoping it would give me the courage I needed to get through the rest of this interaction.
“Jin helped me put Yumi to bed.” I nodded, chewing the newly acquired food without thought. “She went down really easy.”
“That’s good. Maybe she’ll actually sleep tonight.” Bitterness set back in as I looked at him. Earlier I had dropped Yumi off at her school before going out with Yoongi, only sending Namjoon a simple text informing him that he would be responsible for picking up our daughter since I had plans. He hadn’t responded which only made my furry grow more. Lately it felt very much of the same. It was as if Namjoon was a completely different person living in our apartment and entirely separate from our family. He didn’t eat with us, he didn’t play with Yumi and he certainly didn’t put her to sleep. It was as if I was still a single parent even though I had a husband who was just down the hall.
“I’m sorry,” Namjoon admitted, looking down at the empty tin foil that sat in front of him. I couldn’t help but tilt my head to the side as if confused by his sudden confession until he continued. “I know I haven’t exactly been the best of help lately.”
No you haven’t, I wanted to say. Instead I just shrugged. “I’m used to it.” I didn’t miss when he winced at my words but I also wasn’t sorry I said them. It was just simply a fact.
“How was your outing with Yoongi?” He changed the subject when he realized that talking about our daughter was only going to result in a fight. When it came to her I couldn’t help myself; I was extremely overprotective. Having taken care of her by myself for all these years had really ingrained that in me whether I wanted to be or not.
“Good,” I nodded; my lips widening at the thought. “I missed him.” I confessed just now letting it hit me just how much I had missed him. The year had been so lonely and even though we would message, Yoongi was very busy and couldn’t always get back to me. It would be pretty safe to say I’d slipped in and out of my depressive episodes and would ignore my phone for weeks. Perhaps that’s why I’d gravitated towards Sujin at first; out of loneliness. We’d become easy friends out of convenience at first and it blossomed from there. He was filling the void in me that I didn’t know I needed filled until he was there, answering my calls late at night, letting me vent about my marriage, letting me just be me with my daughter without the pressures of having an idol husband and friends.
“I’m glad you could see him then.” He was smiling at me in a way that made my stomach and insides churn with thoughts I was trying my best to suppress. I watched as he took another shot of his drink and I followed suit, downing the whole mass of liquid. I reached for the bottle, filing my glass again before downing the whole thing one more time. I needed this. I needed to get these words out of my mouth.
“Namjoon,” I tried, picking at my hands again as I started to change the subject. Thanks to the flavorful liquid I finally had found some burst of courage and I wasn’t about to let it slip by me. The small talk was killing me to the point I couldn’t take it anymore and all I wanted was answers. I could feel his eyes on me as I continued to pick my hands but Namjoon made no motions to try and stop me this time. “Do you think this is working?”
“Is what working?” He asked slightly puzzled, hands knotting together as he looked at me.
“Us.” There was a long pause in which the quiet hum of the air purifier filled the silence that came from him until he finally spoke.
“If I’m being totally honest,” He sighed, running his hands through his hair. He looked so beaten down and tired that I was starting to wonder just how many sleepless nights he’d had since my confession. “No.”
“So you understand then? What I said? About how I was feeling?” I could feel myself holding my breath.
“Not fully at first...but I guess I understand a little bit more now.” Of course you do, I wanted to say. It was, after all, thanks to your group mates who had intervened to mediate a different trajectory of an outcome. Instead I just nodded. “Look I won’t pretend that I’m blameless but,” He sighed. “I don’t think I’m fully to blame either.” I sat there for a long moment, considering Yoongi’s words from earlier, before I let myself look back at him.
“I...agree. I’ll admit that I could have been more...outspoken about some things. But Namjoon, you have to agree that we aren’t exactly...close anymore. That we haven’t been. For a while-”
“Babe,” He tried, slightly interrupting my train of thought to reach out to touch me. “Please stop. You’re starting to bleed again.” And there he was, with those long fingers of his touching mine ever so gently that I could feel everything in me buzzing alive once more. The sweet Namjoon that I’d missed for so long had returned in that light touch that it felt like an electric shock had been jolted into my system. The pesky butterflies were back, going at full speed now, and I was shaking slightly due to his warmth. He was leaning over the table, so close to me that I could feel the heat alight my face like a lit flame.
When I looked up, I could see that Namjoon was blushing a deep shade of crimson but, despite the fact that he seemed to be just as jittery as me, he didn’t back down. Instead, his eyes were focused on just me, his hands were on top of my hands and his lips, the ones that were parted ever so slightly, were moving forward towards me in just a way that I was just about to let them.
“Yah, why are you guys so quiet?” It was Seokjin’s boisterous voice that broke me of the spell of Namjoon and we quickly jerked back from each other. What the hell had almost just happened? “You better have saved me some food!” When Seokjin entered the kitchen we were back in our normal positions; Namjoon sitting quietly in his seat flushed with me picking at my hands while I stuffed my face full of gimbap and he just sighed when he saw us.
“Momma?” A small voice broke out and instantly all eyes turned towards the door of the kitchen.
“Yumi, what are you doing awake love?” I spoke through a mouthful of food, brows knitting together as I started to rise out of my seat. Motherly instinct was taking over again and I didn’t hesitate even once to see if Namjoon would get up to see what was the matter.
“I had a bad dream.” She yawned widely looking half dazed.
“Don’t get up, I got her.” I watched as Seokjin scooped her up in his arms and trekked back towards her bedroom, bouncing her along the way as she wrapped her arms around his neck, nestling her tiny head into his shoulder as he soothed her. I wanted to scream at Namjoon, tell him that’s how he should be acting, but instead I sat back down and swallowed my food as I avoided his gaze.
“I’m sorry,” He sputtered a beat later. “I’m just...really sorry. To be honest, I’m struggling here.” He breathed out a deep sigh. “I don’t know what to do. All I know is I don’t want to let go of you but I want to give you your space at the same time. Please,” He was begging. “Tell me what to do.”
“Namjoon,” I sighed, beaten down at this point and a little drunk. This day had been really long and, quite frankly, draining. While it was nice to have seen Yoongi and spent some time with him, I had to admit that the activity of actually leaving the house for myself was way more draining than I had thought it would be. Especially since all we did was talk about my love life. Coming home to find Seokjin and Namjoon drinking in our kitchen was another surprise on top of my ever changing mood and, with Namjoon having been so close only moments prior, my head was spinning. What was even going on anymore? My life was such a mess. “Do whatever you want.” And with that, in the mere seconds it took for me to stand up and for him to get out of his chair and be at my side, he was leaning in to kiss me.

What happens when you start to fall out of love with your husband? What happens when that husband is Kim Namjoon?
pairing: idol husband Namjoon x reader
tag / warnings: mild allusions to smut but very briefly and very much just about y/n remembering how things used to be, Namjoon’s long fingers and not much else.
author note: thank you to everyone who liked the preview!! I’m excited to continue wildflower and I hope you like this chapter!!
The descent down the elevator made my stomach churn. Yumi bounced up and down without a care in the world while I just stared blankly at the reflection in the elevator door. Who even was this person staring back at me? She was so unknown at this point. My life practically just consisted of being a single mother with the ever constant absence of my husband. I had no job to speak of, no career...no dream. Not anymore as that had long been given up in favor of Namjoon and his pursuit and career; his dream.
Thoughts raced through my head a mile a minute as the ding signaled that we were at our destination and as I began to walk Yumi to her preschool all I could think about was the man upstairs in our apartment. How much of myself had I given at this point? How much was there even left to give?
“Mommy!” My thoughts were interrupted by Yumi. My Yumi who looked so much like her father the older she got I was starting to get scared that no part of her would resemble me; the person who has cared for her more often than not.
“What love?” She was still so small and every fiber of my being felt like I needed to stay in the situation I was in just to appease her childhood and make it the most positive environment I could. But I was also starting to become so broken down at this point I wasn’t sure I could feel any kind of love or otherwise and that scared me above all. Who was I becoming? So callus and worn down that nothing, not even the return of my husband, could make me feel a positive emotion? He was, after all, the person that was supposed to do just that. Our life together had started off so great, so full, but now it was dying and at this point I was starting to let it.
“Aren’t you excited? Daddy's home!” Excited was an extreme overstatement but I couldn’t exactly tell her that so I just smiled and beckoned her forward into the preschool doors. She was still enamored by her father and it broke my heart to think of him; no longer my Namjoon. He was such a stranger to me as he was never home and it terrified me to go back to the apartment and continue my normal routine. So much so that I walked the city for hours until it felt like blisters had found my feet and I could finally go back to collect Yumi. To my surprise and horror however, as I arrived back at her school, someone was already there waiting.
“Hey Love,” Frowning as my husband stood at my approach and smiled at me, I made sure to stop far enough out of his reach so that from a distance it looked as how I felt; that we were strangers to each other. “I thought I would surprise you both since you never came home.”
“Surprised indeed.” I continued to frown as he stood there; tall, broad, and totally handsome and so totally not mine. “I thought you didn’t even know where Yumi went to school.” Even though my words were seething he didn’t flinch like expected. Instead he beamed again and started to approach me.
“You don’t give me enough credit. Now,” He went to sling an arm around my shoulder and I flinched, moving away. He gave me a dark look but didn’t press on the matter and instead moved forward towards the door. “Let’s get our daughter.”
I paused in the inbetween - hanging completely. If I moved forward I would have to brush past him but if I stayed behind our daughter would be left waiting. Moving forward ever so slightly and slowly so that precious Yumi wouldn’t be left wondering where I was, Namjoon’s chest came in contact with my shoulder and as he moved forward he pressed hard against my back.
“Babe,” He said low and in my ear, sending chills up my spine. “Don’t look so disgusted. You’re mine after all.”
***
To say that Namjoon being around Yumi made her exuberant was an understatement and she always got this way when he came home, for however brief it may be. She was simply too overjoyed. Too young to understand that this was all just temporary. That this man, who used to be our Namjoon, was just going to leave again and in the process leave us behind; alone and waiting. He would go off like he always did; travel constantly, go and see the world, get showered by love and compliments by enamoured fans all the while we struggled silently because he wasn’t there to see our pain and comfort us. He wasn’t there to see the aftermath of devastated Yumi who demanded she slept in his spot until she felt okay again. He wasn’t there to help with the havoc he created just by being.
But I knew the truth about him.
How cruel he could be, how dark. How he monitored my friends and forbade me to become one with any other man that wasn’t in his inner circle. How he insisted that he have a tracker on my phone, even to monitor me when he was away. How he would ghost me for weeks at a time and later claim that it was all work, that things were too overwhelming and he just couldn’t deal with it and us all at the same time and he needed to prioritize. But then, watching all the content they would put out to appease little Yumi’s desire to see her father even when he was on the other side of the world and I couldn’t bear the thought of looking at him, I would catch glimpses of him having true fun and it would just make my skin crawl.
I couldn’t be happy for him, not anymore.
Not after all those times we needed him since he just reminded me of so many horrible things now. Not after that time Yumi had the flu and was puking and shivering and running the highest fever she had ever had and I cried myself to sleep once her fever broke and I could rest. Not when she was so small and tiny, in the hospital begging for her father as I sat there and tried to be both, tried to soothe her, tried anything I could to comfort our daughter and felt so terribly rejected every time she asked for Namjoon. Not when he was off somewhere filming, performing, enjoying his life without us.
“Love,” He interrupted my thoughts as I sat at the table with him long after Yumi went to bed. Namjoon actually took the time to play with her before shutting himself in his studio just in time for me to do all the ugly work of making her go to sleep. “You’re picking at your hands and they are starting to bleed. Stop,” He was so quick, so unbelievably quick, as he grabbed my hands and enveloped them in his massive ones. Long fingers curled around mind and he looked at me again; darkly. I knew what he was thinking in that moment but the last time he touched me like that, with those long fingers, was right after Yumi had been born. He was gone too often, smelt of different smells and not the Namjoon that I had grown to love when I was younger. He wasn’t the same. He had changed. “You shouldn’t do that you know. It makes me mad.”
When he looked at me it was still filled with a hunger I used to thrive on. Now though, he was so unbelievably different and no matter how familiar his touch at that moment felt like I had to remind myself of that as I exhaled the breath I didn’t know I had been holding, excused myself to the restroom and cried silently into a towel as I left Namjoon and his hungry gaze alone in the kitchen. Long ago, when I was a different person, I would have fed into the hungry gaze; let him ravage me and have total control. Now was so drastically different and even if he couldn’t understand why it didn’t matter because I knew. I was still crying and with Namjoon I was somehow always finding myself like that; broken and alone.
Later, when it was time to sleep and I had pulled myself out of the bathroom, I was so unbelievably relieved when the late night fell and he shut himself away in his studio. I would be able to get to sleep before he would come crawling into bed at whatever hour in the morning. At least then I wouldn’t have to deal with him. Brushing out my hair after scrubbing my face ragged so my eyes didn’t seem so puffy I began to really think.
Namjoon.
The Namjoon who was idolized all over the world was just down the hall from me and I, the person who was married to the man that millions loved, would have rather been anywhere else at that moment.
Why? I couldn’t help but ponder.
Why was it that so much had changed between us?
Was it when he stopped bringing me flowers before he came back home no matter how long he was away for?
Was it when he missed the birth of our daughter because he was stuck in Japan for promotions and filming?
Was it when, after all of the events he missed, after all the nights that had gone by of sleeping alone, after all the firsts of Yumi’s gone unwitnessed, that I started to feel numb around him?
“Love,” Shocked, I jumped at the sound of his voice coming from the doorway. “How long have you been sitting there? It’s almost 1am.” Frowning I turned towards him. He stood there, looking like the most delicious thing I had ever laid my eyes on. If I wanted to I could let him have me, take total control and use me for whatever he wanted. But that woman had long been suppressed and instead there sat the woman who just shrugged, put her brush down and walked towards the right side of the bed to pretend to sleep so she could avoid talking to him.
“Goodnight,” I spoke softly, shutting the lamp off that sat on the bedside table next to me. In what felt like a different life that table used to be filled with photographs and memories long since past. Taken down in favor of an empty space and to appease my stomach so I never had to get nauseous looking at them again. There used to be pictures of us in Jeju long before I had become pregnant, us on our honeymoon in Italy, us in Paris at night right at the front of the Louvre all lit up behind us, us as an us long before the us became him and then me. Namjoon caught it though just before the darkness consumed us. Slipping into bed with me I felt him shift closer, his hand slink up my side, arm to envelope my stomach. He tugged lightly, trying to pull me closer in a nice way but I stubbornly laid planted, rooted to my spot.
“Tomorrow we’ll put the pictures back.” He said finally after I refused to move. “We’ll have breakfast like a family. You’ll take Yumi to school with me and after,” He sighed, a warm breath that reached the nape of my neck as he scooted closer to put his chest to my back for the second time that day. “You’ll be all mine.”

What happens when you start to fall out of love with your husband? What happens when that husband is Kim Namjoon?
pairing: idol husband Namjoon x reader
tag / warnings: tbh, I’m not 100% sure I will continue this fic. It’s mostly a test run...so please let me know if y’all are interested in reading this story!! No warnings so far, but if continued there will be.
author note: I love Namjoon and I think he would be a wonderful husband but this story isn’t about that. This story is what happens after. After a long time of being together. After having a kid. After being married to a man who is married to his work and a group of other boys who all depend on him to lead. This is what happens when you start to question just how much you’ve devoted to Namjoon and his dream and start to realize you aren’t quite sure what yours ever was.
“Hey love,” Namjoon smiles as he continues to scrape semi-burnt eggs out of the pan in his hand onto a bed of steaming rice. Seeing us enter the kitchen makes his head perk up and his stupid dimpled face to stretch with a gesture I couldn’t return just yet.
He had gotten home late last night - or maybe early this morning - I wasn’t quite sure. Honestly, I hadn’t bothered to check my phone and instead fell asleep in our daughters bed at around 2am. If he had come home before or after that it wouldn’t have really made any difference at this point.
“Where are you going?” He asked now noticing the bag around my shoulder, the shoes in one hand and our daughter’s small hand in the other. “Aren’t you going to eat?” The eagerness in his eyes makes me want to vomit and I just look at him blankly.
“I don’t eat breakfast.” I utter, voice dead and void of any and all emotion. He really forgot didn’t he? Had it really been that long? Had endless life on the road made it so impossible to remember his family?
“But,” He faulted, stalling. “I did my best to make it. Practically from scratch, even.” He laughed a little. “It’s only kind of burnt.”
“Then I’m sure it’s to your taste.”
“Daddy!” Interrupted before he could respond, Yumi, the child we both shared who was now almost three years old, screamed as she beamed up at him and yanked her palm out of mine. Bouncing up and down to get his attention - something that was only focused on me - made me immediately step forward to grab her back.
Something about Namjoon being so absent from Yumi’s life really had made me start to hate him. Sure, I was sad sometimes about the ever present absence, but every time our daughter woke up from a nightmare screaming her tiny lungs out and crying for the only thing I should have but could never actually give her - her father - made a fire in me grow and grow until I was almost absolutely sure it would burn down everything around me. It was making me hate him more and more and more and now, with him being off the road for who knows how long, I wasn’t sure what to do with this stranger standing before me.
“We need to go.” I tugged on little Yumi’s hand, guiding her out of the apartment kitchen and towards the front entrance. “Bye.”
“Wait,” He said, trying his best to rest the hot pan down somewhere and come after us. But, thank God, it was just a second too late - the front door clicking shut, us walking towards the elevator. I knew him well enough to know that he would not want to make a scene, that he would not follow. I also, however, knew him well enough to know that he wouldn’t be there when we got back; absent as always. Leaving whatever he was trying to say hanging in the ever abyss that had started to suck the life out of what was once so vibrant, because even with a few months off, he would still find some way to sneak work in and leave us expectant; behind.
