if anybody wanted to protect holly at all they wouldn't be telling her "monsters aren't real" and dismissing her invisible friend. like they cannot be that stupid their has to be another reason right (there was not another reason they just didnt think it was relevant that holly's mysterious imaginary friend was telling her about monsters when they KNOW that monsters exist. classic st character assassination for nancy and mike not to be concerned)

I can't believe this show is trying to make me give a shit about holly in the final fucking season. and sorry to be woke again this show will do anything but prioritize it's characters of color they're like nah what if we made mike and nancy's baby sister who's done jack and fucking shit for four seasons a main character. like huh???

this whole demogorgon in the wheeler's house scene is probably just how it felt to be in anuclear family in 1987

I love the wild demogorgon inconsistencies like literally last episode he killed like a million armed military men and karen is able to mostly fight him off while drunk with a broken wine bottle. girl okay.

cannot believe they wasted a reuse of "the vanishing of" episode title on fucking holly. and we haven't seen erica ONCE

they let el go into the upside down alone and still they aren't really too concerned. I know her powers are strong as hell but shouldn't we be worried. im worried

yeah and during all of this bullshit with the demogorgon nobody was worried about dustin. it's very much giving when a dead kid was found in max's neighborhood and nobody cared to check if it was her. for some reason. as per usual this show is addicted to character assassination and it starts with none of them giving a shit about anybody anymore

big thoughts (there are not that many and other people have already said these things more eloquently im sure):

okay so first of all i have to ask. where are the russians. is that something we've abandoned.

how this season started was just also weird like we spent the whole first episode (being generous by saying just that) playing catchup on what we missed between seasons. like why is there so much exposition FIVE YEARS into this show

there are a lot of complaints to be made about the character assassination of literally everybody in this show and i neednt get into it all but i will bring this up again. why does nobody seem to care about each other. like yeah they all Care i guess but it's more like how you would give a shit if an acquaintance died not how you should care about somehow that you've been through countless traumas with. these characters have all been through something so unique and yet none of them actually feel bonded because of it anymore. they should all have some baseline understanding of each other and love for each other that they just dont. el and hopper spent three straight episodes in the upside down and nobody is concerned. dustin was missing for the entire crawl and nobody was concerned. etc. what is going on.

i have to speak on kali. during season 4 i was whining about how they never had her back even though she is the only lab kid without telekinesis and the only person we know of that has henry's power of being able to manipulate what somebody thinks is real and tangible in front of them. so it baffled me why nobody (i have to assume el told the others about kali and her powers) thought that kali's expertise could be useful. and that's only on a utility level as well considering that el would probably want to have kali back just so she could have somebody that understands her. especially considering how important el and kali finding each other (somebody like them from the lab) in season 2. and while im glad to have kali back for this season i do have two issues. 1. if im the average stranger things viewer who didnt dedicate years of my life to caring about this show, why should i care? we havent seen kali or even had a mention of her since the end of season 2 which came out literally seven fucking years ago. who is going to remember that. 2. any impact of having kali back is offset by the fact that none of the characters we care about chose this, the government chose this. what made kali's introduction so important was that el's mom pointed her in teh right direction and el Chose to find her and Chose to stay and Chose to be mentored by her. from our perspective el hasnt thought about kali once since s2 so how am i supposed to expect el to care that the government has kali locked up. if el really cared wouldnt she have mentioned her? tried to contact her? tried to find her in the mindscape or whatever? but no. fuck all this.

kind of related. for a show that's about el this season sure is a lot about will. which is such a weird decision because he hasnt done anything but sing in the upside down be possessed and have a crush on mike for four straight seasons and this show expects me to give a shit about him having powers? yeah okay

and speaking of powers its so fucked that el had to be tortured in a lab for most of her life then go through all that shit outside of the lab the retraumatize herself to get her powers back then work to get her powers as strong as they are now and will gets to just. have powers now i guess. men can laugh while women can only chuckle.

just generally this season the stakes feel so low. i dont have a way to expand on that i hope you know what i mean.

and finally. these four episodes were just so nothingburger. nothing happened. i watched this shit two days ago (intently at that) and i could barely give you a plot summary because there's so little plot to summarize. is it that hard to make your show interesting when you have an all star cast (okay maybe like five all star cast members) an infinite budget and a great foundation? apparently so.
