A master of installation and photography, Stuart Bailes' evocative compositions are the documentation of the artist's exploration of human sensory experience, and our interractions with the physical and metaphysical world. With a visual clarity and geometry akin to the Suprematists' paintings, Bailes deploys his understanding of complex lighting arrangements and the strengths and limitations of the camera to manipulate the viewer's perceptions and interpretation of the material content of his images. Bailes writes: "My works are the pauses in these movements. They perform outside of this world but perhaps looking back into this world as vivid reflections."
Stuart Bailes completed a masters in photography at the Royal College of Art in 2010, and has exhibited work in the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy and Holland. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Newport Museum, Griffin Photography Museum, Boston and the Photographer's Gallery, London. In 2010, Bailes received the Hooper's Gallery Award for his MA graduate exhibition in London, and in 2009 he was selected as Magenta Foundation's Flashforward09 UK winner, resulting in an international touring group show.
