Stud Handling

So. Long story short. About 6-7 months ago my family rescued a stud horse from a kill pen. At the time we weren't looking for horses to buy or anything of the sort so he was kind of an impulse decision, and really the biggest reason we decided to buy him is because it turned out, he's my gelding's sire. (Small world honestly, like what are the odds that he ended up in a kill pen that was like a 2 hour's drive from the family farm when the last place he was was more than several states away and my own horse is originally from a good 15-17hr drive away.) But anyway, we own him now, and he's been doing great. It's still a mystery how he got there, we called his original owners, and the guy said he had raised and owned him for 15 years but recently sold him to a breeder in Ohio and from there it's a complete mystery on what happened on that and it was never the original owners intention for his horse to end up in a kill pen in Minnesota. We asked if he would like us to return the stud to him. The original owner was extremely grateful we rescued him and everything we were doing, but declined saying he wouldn't be able to care for him anymore. So that's why we own a stud now.

My concern is, I'm going back to the farm for the summer and I've never handled a stud in my life. My mom has experience with owning studs, but I don't so I'm a bit intimidated. What are some things I should expect since I'll be handling him this summer?

Any advice would be great!
