Make a Difference With The Student Senate
Have you ever felt the need to make a difference on campus? You can - just like the ambitious students who joined the Student Senate.
“The Student Senate has given me the opportunity to give back and help the campus and community reach their full potentials, while simultaneously helping me reach MY full potential.”
That’s according to senate member Michael Tadros ‘17. He pointed out some of the major accomplishments and events created by the senate that our student body enjoys throughout the semester, such as Casino Night, Commuter Brunches, and weekly events like Monday Night Football.
“The Senate has allowed me to become an active member of the community.”
But being part of the student senate isn’t just about creating fun events for students to unwind temporarily. It’s also about listening to the voice of your academic peers and helping improve the campus as a whole.
For example, Tadros says that the Student Senate was responsible for passing a “Smoke Free Campus Resolution”, and doubling the time between classes from 5 minutes to 10 minutes for the Spring ‘18 semester and beyond.
In terms of visual changes to the campus, the senate set forth renovations to the Campus Center’s 2nd floor, including new carpet and furniture.
Undoubtedly these accomplishments have an impact on NJIT, but potentially also on the senate members’ careers moving forward.
“The leadership skills that I have learned and the strong connections with other students and faculty have helped me become a better person as a whole.”
If you want to help bring change to your campus, while serving the NJIT student body, perhaps consider joining the Student Senate.
According to Tadros, you can “become a Student-At-Large, which is a volunteer position for the committee of your choosing. This is a great way to not only get involved on the Senate and on-campus, but also a great way to get exposed to how the Senate functions.”
More info can be found at StudentSenate.NJIT.edu or visiting their office on the 4th floor of the Campus Center, between 10am and 5:30pm on Monday thru Friday.
