i am free from terrible studio job...i hope other pottery studio related jobs (kiln tech etc) are better tbh b/c they really treated me terribly and really tried to take advantage of my time and skills (they paid min wage and kept trying to get web design work out of me...i was like no?? that is easily a $1000 job fam, i'm not giving that to you for a min wage part time job with no benefits). more vent/tea under cut :)
they also showed their whole butts during the sale, like they did nothing to organize it or help run it but then had the audacity to ask for reimbursement for adverts (that they had previously said they'd pay for out of the studio budget) and also claim the sale didn't do anything for the studio (despite being free advertising and make being a member more attractive-as an all members studio, they really want and need new members). they really don't do anything to foster community but are willing to take advantage if someone else does it kind of thing, it's kind of a bummer to know now from the inside ya know? it makes me want to look around for other studios or maybe just get my own kiln set up (which i sort of want to do anyway, because i do not love cone 10 reduction firing at all...cries in love of colors). my now ex boss couldn't resist a little dig like "maybe you see that running a studio is hard now" and i'm like yeah running a studio is hard but you also seem kind of bad at business and seem to depend a lot on free labor which isn't great (i did not say this to her but girl, please). they also don't respect other people's hard work in other fields (the way they expected $2000 of free graphic design work from me for the sale/adverts and then were so rude about it and difficult to work with). they're also bad about doing things they don't like- which is fine for your personal life but for business you suck it up?!? they also promised they'd teach me stuff but they really didn't teach me anything i couldn't have learned quicker from youtube etc tbqh. like maybe a bit about loading and firing kilns but again, it's info you can learn elsewhere for free.
they also made me pay my full membership fee the whole time i worked there, even tho i didn't get to use it hardly at all so that was also gross and shitty --
also realizing yesterday and today how absolutely exhausted i am and how i haven't been truly able to relax in weeks. i can get a little bit of work done in between epic naps lol
