In case anyone is wondering, the theme of the edit is animated pilots that came out in the last year (aka, my birthday indulgence). And yes, Gaslight District, Knights Of Guinevere, Heathens and Homestuck pilots all came out in the same span of 12 months, let that sink in for a second.

People talk about indie animation being consolidated solely to Glitch Studios. There are actually more variety of indie animations, but people do not seek them out for some reason. A few indie animations I have seen that are underrated include the Ebony Witch, Talon and The Bloody Mar from Studio Wrong. There are countless others I have not seen. Maybe there could be something like an indie animation version of Alpha Beta Gamer to notify people of upcoming indie animations. Either way I feel like people really don't explore indie animation enough.

Anyone looking for a good show to follow, Studio Wrong just released their pilot episode for 'The Bloody Mary'!

It's a really charming, comedic thriller that also set up for a good mystery. I love the humor they but into it cause it caught me by surprise half the time, the art style and animation style really compliment each other, character interactions are something I hold dear with any media and they really hooked me with these characters through that! The only critique I have personally is the beginning (when Betty is explaining the gig) being a little flat due to the exposition !!HOWEVER!! I know that's because it's a pilot, which knowing that makes me excited to see a full series where they can flesh stuff out more naturally!

Author's note: On AO3 here. (I know it's very likely the first fanfiction, so it's unlikely to show up in a proper fandom tag for a while. If people could interact there, I'd be thankful!)

Haven't written fanfiction in a while. Was nice to just sit down and do so!

My HC as a fic author is nonbinary lesbian Seeka (FTW). Genderless Seeka is cool too.

Summary: Mary is trying to understand how to deal with Betty and Seeka being…like that. (Very close.)

A Certain Intervention

“You want me to ask them out on a date?” Betty gulped. “Nuh-uh. There’s no way I’m doing that—what? What? N-n-no. Wait. No. I get it. You’re nuts. Oh God, we invited a madwoman into our freaking house—”

Mary was unsure of the situation. She really was. Lounging around on the cushy floor of the apartment, she still tried her best at…

Figuring out how to handle this pair. It was driving her insane. She wouldn’t be able to handle the easygoing touchy-feeliness that was also going literally nowhere in a relationship sense for much longer. She sort of wanted to barf over being that guy just sitting around watching a slowburn—seriously experiencing the most intense form of slow-burn known to humankind—except in real life.

For example, of late this freaking pair were freaking cuddling on the admittedly comfy starry blue couch while watching shows and—like it got sometimes—gaming together. The pink-haired girl had honestly been more adorable than usual, leaning in subtly as Seeka had leaned in harder—but the demon had ascertained that their face was angled a certain way, and that Betty was further from their antlers, with Betty in one of her suspiciously more glam outfits, poking at the handheld’s screen by late in the night. One of the pair’s endless excuses.

Seriously, why? She’d asked why!

Betty had said, “We just hang out. Nothing wrong with that. People do it all the time!”

Seeka had said nothing. They’d gone back to gaming. Diversionary tactics 101? Who cared. Mary needed to kill them, honestly.

Back to the present. The present where Mary was losing it, sitting there as Betty now spoke to herself for a while, and Seeka was out for who knows how long…!

It was worse than she liked. The humankind thing was one issue—she’d never interacted with people who’d let a relationship stew that long—instead, it was a monster-kind thing. Monster-kind slowburns were infamous. She couldn’t have this go on much longer.

Mary had been glancing over at the door many times as Betty continued to ramble. Betty had been sorting through shit in the kitchen. There was cereal over-spilling into a freakishly milk-first bowl on the otherwise clean countertop (for now).

Finally, the footsteps came. Mary slammed up and ran, fast—as fast as a...ghost.

Extremely fast! She zoomed, and Betty’s mouth was slapped by her hand. Betty was noticeably wanting to continue to talk—dear God! Her hand felt odd.

Seeka finally stepped back into the apartment with packages. It was always about their own packages of shit. Seeka freaking dropped them unceremoniously onto the floor. Mary could swear she’d heard a crack sound from one.

Seeka was already fed up, glancing back up at the two of them. Mary had to admit—they had a poised, stylish look, were surprisingly cute, and antlers were definitely unique—

Seeka said, “This about flirting again? You’re the ones flirting now?”

Mary threw Betty one direction. The direction was back toward the couch. She was now near Seeka again.

She protested, “No! This is about your drama!”

“Damn,” said Betty, not bothering to even sit up. “Well, this is all going great. I’m gonna have to die, Seeka, way earlier than we were saying—”

“You have a what pact?”

“Stop making this dramatic and scaring her, Betty.”

“Chill.” Betty grumbled. “It’s not our pact, man! I’m saying I’ll die, but then I’ll have a love guru ghost stalk me to the end of time! What do I do, Seeka?”

Seeka blinked their brown eyes at her. Then they did finger guns out of nowhere.

“Live, babe!” Seeka fucking winked.

Then they turned around, facing Mary again.

They went and said while staring right at Mary’s face: “Did that chill her out, do you think, Betty?”

“No,” said Betty. “She’s getting so mad, girl!”

Mary was now the one fed up. She stalked over to Betty, making as vague a waving motion around the apartment nearest to her and Betty as possible.

She snapped, “I just don’t get it. Am I seriously off about this? You guys are gushier than you realize! I mean, what’s your type, Seeka? I swear you have one. You gotta tell me, and then I’ll let off, except I won’t because you’re a total lia—”

“What, between the two of you?” Seeka shrugged, crouching down to open a package. “I don’t know, maybe you, Mary? I’m not sure what finally spiraled us into this shit; don’t get too caught up in your head that someone would find you a little cute, it ain’t nothing—”

Mary had officially short-circuited. She…

Fell backwards, flat, and right fazed right through the floor…!

As she did, she watched Betty spring up on the couch without using her arms. The pink-haired girl was noticeably a little put off.

“When you cuddle me?” she heard.

Mary thought, Well, I gotta run, this is gonna get crazy…!
