Ten years ago, Tumblr user @the-alligator-queen-blog began an annual tradition called Self Insert Week: a weeklong challenge/jam/etc where participants are encouraged to make fanworks with themselves as the main character.

This year, this storied Tumblr festival will begin on Sunday, May 10th, and last through Saturday, May 16th.

Why participate? Well, in its founder’s own words, it’s “a fun reason to make ourselves into the awesome characters we daydream up while going about our normal lives”.

But it’s also, in my view, a strike back at the common tendency to see fanwork – and creative work more generally – as such Serious Business that it’s not allowed to be openly self-indulgent. People worry so much, these days, about whether their artistic endeavors are “good enough”, or are a credit to their Brand, or whatever. I think that’s sad. Maybe even a little unhealthy, if we do it all the time. What’s the harm, really, if not everything we write is Serious Literature? Who said it had to be? Why can’t we embrace the cringe every now and again, if that's what sparks joy?

So this event is a "feast of fools" for creative works: an excuse – carte blanche and imprimatur – to indulge in all the silly fandom escapism you’d eschew in a more normal week. Go smooch your favorite Digital Circus denizen in Photoshop. Go write about the drama you and your Miis got up to on that island. Go wild! There’s no sign-up to participate, no masterpost, nothing like that. Just write, draw, and post your stuff under #self insert week 2026 so that we can all cheer each other on. :)

This is Doris Pollas, the cofounder of the organisation now known as lgbt+ Denmark which by being founded in 1948 is one of the oldest ongoing queer organisation in the world.

Doris lived in a farm in Jutland as a child. She was always butch and figured out she was a lesbian in her teens. When she heard about a club in copenhagen where boys kissed boys and girls kissed girls she went just some months after and it was through that club she started a paper connecting queer people all up to seventies and co founded lgbt+ Denmark.

She is now 97 years old and wishes for every queer person to have an as loving and accepting family as she did.

I don’t see a lot of older gays from my country, so learning about Doris, a masc lesbian, was really nice.

Anyone looking for a good show to follow, Studio Wrong just released their pilot episode for 'The Bloody Mary'!

It's a really charming, comedic thriller that also set up for a good mystery. I love the humor they but into it cause it caught me by surprise half the time, the art style and animation style really compliment each other, character interactions are something I hold dear with any media and they really hooked me with these characters through that! The only critique I have personally is the beginning (when Betty is explaining the gig) being a little flat due to the exposition !!HOWEVER!! I know that's because it's a pilot, which knowing that makes me excited to see a full series where they can flesh stuff out more naturally!

So, if I understand, the shape and appearance of the Avatars is due to a program that reflects the User's mind state. Normally, this program would run during the Avatar's creation and be turned off after it. BUT!!!! What if the Program is constantly running in the background and it never turns off????

If the "mind files" start to deteriorate or diverge from the original files. Let's say.... Having a complete mental breakdown???

I would assume the program would interpret that mental state as something quite... Abstract????
