I have mentioned before that I study film in Chicago, but I have neglected to name my school on purpose for a few reasons.

The first reason is I sometimes post about my rl experiences and I want to respect the privacy of the people involved. While what I have posted so far is fairly vague, some situations would be recognizable to people at my school. I have had and will most likely still have bad experiences that I can share with others so they can learn from my mistakes, but I don’t want those negative experiences to reflect badly on anyone I work with.

The second reason is favoritism/hate for certain schools. I love where I am studying, but I realize my situation doesn’t apply for everyone. I don’t want people to judge the entire school based on my experiences (positive and negative.) I also don’t want people making judgments on other individuals based on where they study. (It happens and I hate it.) I am a firm believer that you can study film anywhere so I don’t want to spread that kind of hate.

The third reason is it makes this blog a little more approachable and universal. In my experience, its easier to approach a student filmmaker than “a [schoolname] student filmmaker” because if I don’t go to that school I immediately feel like an outsider. Also, in time, I hope to expand this blog and maybe bring on other filmmakers as admins with other backgrounds and experiences.

So while I’m sorry I can’t tell you exactly what school I study at, I will say that there are many schools where you can study and I encourage you to find the right fit for you!
