Focus: A crucial ability
"Try to focus otherwise you can not get through it"
Like everyone else, I always struggle with it. Struggling is not a factor. I thought "focus" generally plays with me. When I am seeing a thrilling movie, I don't know what is happening in the whole world. I am so focused! When I am playing candy crush, it's not a problem to engage my mind in the colorful candies! But in the case of study, I find myself texting when I had to learn a critical law. I spend hours looking at mildly diverting stuff on YouTube after opening for searching study-related stuff. My problem is a bit complicated. After wasting my time, I start to repent and start to dawdle again.
One customary solution I got- " While studying, keep the electronic devices away!"
Ahh, I keep the devices away. It's sure that now those things are dead and can not come to my room on their own. But how did you forget about the other side?- "My mind". It's lively- shit. It can easily fly away and reach its peer :(
Focus? The word is easy enough but tough to acquire. Can you focus easily?
Solving these problems need own efforts first- It's true.
What is the focus?
Focus is the ability to choose the right thought among thousands of thoughts.
Hmm, I got the definition. But I lost control to choose the "right" one. Why?
Firstly, "Worry/ Insecurity".Most of the disturbing thoughts can be thrown into this division. We don't want to live in present. Always "what if"s are surrounding our minds. If I can not do well, what will happen? But what will make your future? = "This present". We are longing for the results, not the processes.
Secondly, Man always wants an immediate response to his efforts. That's why giving status in a social media or completing a level in candy crush saga are more prioritized than reading a long book or finishing study. Our focus is constantly on our achievements(success/failures). We always want to judge ourselves from others' perspectives.
We are not working on what we are now rather what we want to achieve
This world is not prioritizing rather than prioritizing away.- Christina Bengtsson
Thirdly, Frustration for not having time. It is largely responsible for our mental distractions. We waste our time and repeat those events in mind that we don't have time. But time is our own investment. We have to work efficiently which means more works in a short time. Wasted time will not come back. We have to learn from our mistakes and move on.
Can we do something?
Here are some "most worked" ways you can read.
Prioritize your most important goal
We want to achieve all at once. But the hardest thing is to focus on two works. It's not a matter of showing that you can accomplish many tasks at a time. Be realistic. Your brain can focus on one work at a time. So, try to figure out the appropriate process of your cherished goal. Give time to plan for your goal because spending organized one hour is more productive than spending disordered twelve hours.
Try to make a not-to-do list
We always try to make a to-do list. But when we dive into distractions, we never know. So, observe yourself. Which things are responsible for not focusing on your works? Make a list of them. For this, your brain will be conscious of your sub-conscious works.
Be patient
Don't plunge yourself on the sweet success or horrible failure. Centralize your mind on the processes. Yeah, you will not see the outcomes in one day. But these short effective steps will give you triumph one day.
If you want to be a great writer, then having a best-selling book is wonderful. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of writing.
Your efforts will give you confidence every day. You can not eat the sweet fruit in one day. Your mind has to be strong enough to bear the storms and difficulties of the process.
Give you breaks and measure progress
You set up the goals -that's good. But BE REALISTIC. Don't assume yourself as a superman. You will do all the things at a time. You give this false excuse always to your mind that you will do the works but at last, you fail and blame yourself. You are not liable rather your unrealistic plans are responsible for your failure. In short breaks, you can measure your progress. You can use the Pomodoro technique for keeping you on the road.
Control your greed: Multitasking
Don't want to achieve too many things. Don't give a start again and again. You have to set the goals knowing the clear idea of the process. Before beginning, you see the sweet ending of a plan and fall in a love with the endings. But after some days when the difficulty level starts, you give up and start again. So, your main progress is zero.
Don't be tempted with lots of sweet results rather focus on one and you will get the outcomes. Stop goofing up!
All of these things will work for your own efforts. You have to brainstorm on what fits best for you. Knowing how to focus is not the start. Be practical and apply the tricks. You will end up discovering new and puissant solutions :)
Studyblr Introduction!
Hi! I am an ordinary student from Bangladesh and I opened an account in Tumblr a few months ago with my friend @fahmidas-world to keep motivated about the study. Really I am not so organized and at the end of the day, I am left with nothing about the study to post on Tumblr! So I did not post for long days. It had another reason though. I was busy searching for my life's destination.
So...now I want to post some motivational posts about the study (as I love to write them), I will try to post my study stuff also and here I will describe shortly about myself.
I am Sulagna (I prefer Rasha - my nickname!)
I am a 12 grader in a science background. Now I am taking these courses( Bangla, English, Higher Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information and communication technology)
I am going to sit for the HSC exam on April 2020. So now i am busy with my test exams in college and lab reports. Really I have to study for it :)
My future plan?
Actually, I am not fully sure about that. I am searching for my interest and skill both to match. But up to now-
I want to go to the USA for studying in a liberal arts college (My SAT score 1360, My IELTS score 6.5). I want to upgrade it to 1500 and 7+ bands next year. So, my SAT preparation is going on.
My preferred major?
Physics
Mathematics
(Actually, I am reading about different topics and trying to find my interest as I am not sure about it. But up to now, I have a great interest in completing my undergraduate in physics. But "Why" is most important! So I have to know why I want to read physics)
Engineering?
Somehow my family is saying to be an engineer. But I have to know if I match it or not. I don't know what is engineering and why I will go for that. So the same answer, if I find my "why", I will go for it.
So for being Engineer in Bangladesh, I need to give admission test in BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology). The admission test is amazing, I want to give it!! ;) and if I go to the US, I can also be an engineer there.
JAPAN! I also want to apply for mext scholarship next year.
My Extracurriculars!
I love to know science stuff beside my books! That's it. In tenth grade, I was in my full potential but past is past!. In 11 and 12th grade I was not ready to explore myself. But DANCE is my extracurricular beside studies.
My skills(I want to learn)
I want to learn math
I want to learn physics
I want to learn to do effective communication
I want to be a fluent English speaker
I want to be a soccer player
I want to be a skilled driver
I want to learn Japanese
And soo on.
This is a short description of myself and I have nothing to say more. I am a great procrastinator.
I am a great follower of my family. I never regret for any opportunity I lost. Finally, I am a thinker!
Apps I use: Forest, Notion, Duolingo, Quizlet, Anki, Tide, eng vocabulary apps and ted talks
Thanks to all of you for 500 followers.
