Day 72
So...I'm looking back at the few notes I took for the rest of the 90 days and it's sooooo brief that I don't exactly remember this day. I can't remember if I had already gone to the first wedding or not...but I'm just gonna talk about it anyways so I don't forget. (I didn't find it in my past posts.)
Our culture classes were getting really dry and boring so literally everyone started to bring their tablets to class...I mean they gave them to us for a reason so we might as well use them in class. So I played with my Pou and it made the time go by so much faster.
So I'm thinking this was the day of the very first wedding. My host parents picked me up and we went to a place near West Lake. Super beautiful place. My host dad made me really uncomfortable though because he's so god awfully awkward. My dad showed some of us around the area...idk why...we could have just stayed at the wedding lol but yeah so then we headed back because the wedding was about to start. This was more expensive "rich" wedding that we were invited to and there was like a stage. We sat at around round tables and then the wedding started it. It was like a play...so strange. The bride wore 3 different dresses. When she came out the first time she was wearing a gold dress. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. and then they spoke for a bit in Chinese and it was like the Hunger Games. Like how Caesar Flickerman interviews everyone...it was strange. And then the bride walked off and they played this slide show of how they fell in love....it was weird. They families were trying to set them up together and he was going over to her house and when he got there she needed to go to the hospital...idk I couldn't follow but the video slide show thing was really neat. Now it was time for them to get married. She walked down the stage like a runway model, and this time she was wearing a white wedding dress. It was super quick and then they walked off...I was like ohhh...that was fast. lol
We then ate the food...which had been sitting there since we got there. It was super cold. Still not used to eating the meals cold. I hated it lol. But there wasn't too much for me to eat...just like one plate...out of like 15...sooo that was uncomfortable because my host dad was trying to shove food down my throat. like NO. I am not going to eat this. I've been here for how long?! I can eat myself. I didn't say that but I was truly frustrated.
So the Chinese tradition is to sing songs for the couple or read a poem. So while we were eating people were doing that. It was super sweet. I actually really enjoyed it. Chinese people are so good at singing. And then they played Gangnam Style and it was supposed to be for the children that were there but my table (Mae, host parents, Deanna) insisted that I went up and did it with them...so I did lol. OF COURSE. It was so much fun...I made Tiana, Rachael, and Jennifer come up with me hahaha :) It was great. Later on we found out that they were so pleased that we did that! POINT FOR THE AMERICANS haha
But Chinese wedding dont last too long...the bride (now in a red dress) and groom went around thanking and doing cheers with every table we got pictures with them and it was fun! She was soooo so beautiful. The freaking girl even changed her hair 3 times. Now that's how you do a wedding...three dresses different hair styles. She was like a Kim Kardashian but sweeter. Our professor James was the best man in the wedding too! The girls love him haha.
So we decided to leave and my host mom had to go to the bathroom...and that's when it got really awkward...my host dad like scolded me for not eating the food. Told me I wasted to much food. I tried to explain I don't like seafood and Deanna is vegetarian so that's why we didn't eat much. And he goes it was expensive! You should have eaten it. I was like well I'm sorry...I didn't like it...and he was like sucha waste and just kept saying it....I was like I GET IT. But the thing is like they didn't have to buy fucking expensive food. not my fault. and even in the fucking car ride how he was like such a shame we wasted so much food. I was like I'm done. stfu.
So that was the end of my night. Very frustrating. ugh.
