hello, i'm currently in 10th grade living in Indo as well, i aspire to be a graphic designer, i was just wondering if you have any tips on getting to good universities (specifically as an Indonesian) and being a better graphic designer? maybe there's something i can start now? thanks in advance!! :)
Hi! My point is: study earnestly!! There are more than one method to get into your desired uni nowadays, so besides perfecting your art, maintain your grade on regular subjects too. If you’re taking regular exam route, you can join special art prep school like bintang merah, villa merah, etc in your third year (12nd grade). no, they don’t teach you how to be a designer/artist; but they have extensive experience about how the exam is going to be, so you can practice more on art exam material. (This is kind of important if you’re aiming for Bandung Institute of Technology // FSRD ITB.) They can give you good tips on how to enhance your art portfolio, too.For being a better graphic designer; there’s no advice other than: practice!! Train yourself to see design aspects in your everyday life (color, lines, ambience, etc), browse and collect your favorite graphic design portfolios on pinterest/tumblr/behance, and try to apply it on your own design. It’s okay to copy first; you’ll evolve with more and more practice. Make your own art/design project and post it to social media - maybe a webcomic on instagram, start a photography series with your own cellphone, start your own graphic design project blog, and meet people with same interests. This way you can cultivate your design preferences, and most importantly, keeping your motivations onboard + portfolio bonus!Good luck and don’t forget to have fun! :D
