He met her at a festival he didn’t even want to go to. She was high off something she didn’t name, eyes half-lidded, smile crooked. Said she was studying dentistry but only ever talked about old movies and sound design.
He told her he produced music.
She said, “Cool,” and kissed him like that meant something.
They hooked up that night behind the stage trailers—no names, no numbers, just skin and adrenaline, bass bleeding through the walls. No romance, just heat. No slow build, just now.
But the next day, she showed up again.
He didn’t know why she came back.
She didn’t know why he let her in.
Maybe it was how her voice sounded at 3 a.m.
Maybe it was how she let him roll his blunts.
Maybe it was that one time they both stared at the ceiling when high and she whispered, “What are we smoking anyway?”
They kept hooking up. No rules. No promises. Just long nights on the couch in his home studio, her shirt half-off, his hands under it. Her lipstick on his water bottle. His beats looping in the background while she moaned into his neck.

And one day, out of nowhere, she looked at him—eyes red from too little sleep and too much everything—and said, “I don’t want to float away anymore.”
He didn’t know how to answer. So he kissed her instead. Slower this time. Softer.
They didn’t change overnight.
They still smoked things they didn’t name.
Still felt the haze sometimes.
But now she stayed.
And that numb, foggy thing between them?
It started to feel like something close to real.
