I think my artist block is linked to fear. Fear of being seen. Fear of my art as an extension of myself being judged and found inadequate. Fear of saying something true with my work instead of just creating something calm and pretty. Take this piece for example, an idea of capturing body dysmorphia on paper. Stark. Maybe a little alarming. Almost a caricature of a body that reflects how the mind sees its vessel. After completing this one 5 years ago I just couldn’t bring myself to create another. And now that I am posting it I am afraid that someone will report it even though the nipples are clearly a representation of nipples instead of real nipples and I will have to argue with Instagram or Facebook or Tumblr and fight for the validity of my artistic vision. #freethenipple But here we go.
