It’s almost too quiet as you make your way through a now empty world.
Perhaps it's for the best you weren’t there for the final hour, if the blood and bodies scattered around various parts of the server were anything to go by.
You run your fingers over new gravestones, the freshly disturbed dirt hadn’t even started growing grass yet.
You pass through bases and builds like a ghost, gently closing the eyes of any body you come across.
You knew one day your true purpose would rear its ugly head.
It had only been a matter of time after all, these types of worlds have a timer set on them, all are destined to end in violence.
You made a mistake though.
Attached to the people around you, the ones who welcomed you and made you feel, ever briefly, like you belonged there.
Attached to the ones you came to love. To the ones who decided you were worth loving back.
Attached to the way mortals grow and thrive and live.
Live in ways you never could.
But alas, the cycle must come to an end.
You were just glad there was at least understanding in the end. That people went out on their own terms, with their loved ones.
Souls are an odd thing, they hold onto the mortal’s final moments, giving one the ability to see how they passed.
It was almost peaceful as you went about your job of freeing the souls of your server-mates to move along to wherever they end up next.
You maybe show some favor to a few souls, giving them kisses before sending them on their way.
Green, red, purple, yellow, pink, another purple, another red, blue… Orange.
You can’t help the smile on your face, watching the orange color flare back to life in your hands. You allow yourself a selfish moment longer to hold it close before pressing a kiss to it and letting it go like the others.
Bodies don’t stay once the souls have been sent on their way, crumbling to dust and sweeping away with the wind, leaving the world even more empty than it already was when you joined.
Thus is the cycle of this type of world.
If only you could join them.
As it always was meant to be.
You could only hope to one day cross paths with them again.
