What makes a friend? Who are your friends? You don’t think there’s anyone on the server you wouldn’t consider a friend, though you’re quite aware that sentiment might not be returned. Of course, that doesn’t mean you don’t have anyone you want to hurt, don’t have anyone you’re angry at, don’t have any enemies. Arch said being enemies is a type of friendship, and you feel the same way.

White concrete.

You know your own motives. You want to do something that other people see, feel something about, do something about. There are other reasons, of course, but you want to make your mark on this world. If no one does anything, nothing will happen. And you never had any intention of leaving that responsibility to anyone else.

And that’s the thing, isn’t it. Inaction is so fucking easy. It is so fucking easy to convince yourself that you have no chance of succeeding and therefore you shouldn’t even try. You can’t win that fight, you can’t achieve that goal, you’re going to fail, so why start in the first place? What a stupid outlook. Failure is worth so much more than not even trying.

And spite. “I’m not going to engage with what you’re doing, because that’s what you want me to do, so I’m going to spite you.” As if that was anything but a naked attempt to hide your - laziness, or cowardice, or both. Inaction is the path of least resistance.

You’d know all about that, though, wouldn’t you? Though at least some of your spite led you to action. You were still a coward. Betty never wanted you to do anything about those who hurt her, and you listened, but weren’t you relieved, deep down? Wasn’t doing nothing so much easier?

You kick the shulker across the room and it falls over, spilling stacks all over the floor. You sigh and go to pick all of your materials back up.

…Arch also said he hated unconditional love. That you don’t agree with. Sure, your trust is conditional, your loyalty, your cooperation, your resentment, but you love this server, and everyone that makes it what it is. You love the imperfections, and the pain that comes with it. You love to see the effort people make, for destruction or creation; they do so knowing it could all be taken away in little more than moments, and they do it anyway. That’s why it frustrates you so much when it seems like people aren’t willing to try - for themselves, for their loved ones, for the server. It’s not about the amount of time spent on something, either, you know people have other responsibilities, you have other responsibilities. But you want more than anything to do the best with the time you do have. You want to succeed, you want to overcome the odds, and you can see - you want to see - that others do too. You want to trust that even those you can’t see are still making that effort. You hope, you hope, you hope.
