Magnus loves sex both for the pleasure and the intimacy.

And when it comes to intimacy, there is nothing for him more intimate and vulnerable than being a sub. He doesnt do it with every single of his lovers.

He takes those he trusts the most. And then he lets them tie him up, lets them take him apart, make him vulnerable and make him unable to not bare himself to them.

Shadowhunters Rambling 2.0

Can someone explain to me why it is so hard to the people in this fandom to write sub!Magnus?

Like, I get it. It’s bound to happen that because Magnus has more experience, is the suave one, the charming one and all that jazz, he is the dominant, the alpha. The one who tops. Alec, on the other hand, needs love because he deserves that after everything he’s been through.

Now, this must be shocking to some of you, especially the ones who HATES Magnus, because he is an “older man taking advantage of someone so inoccent as Alec”, but Magnus deserves some love too, he’s been through shit too, he needs cuddling, he needs his love one to tell him that everything is going to be fine, once in while.

And it’s kind of sad because at the same time, they write Magnus like the one who should be waiting for Alec. Like, he is available all the time for him and all the other shadowhunters. The wife who waits for his husband to give him dinner kind of thing.

Why? Magnus is the High Warlock of Brooklyn. He should be busy. Making Alec wait for him, not the other way around. He can be an omega, has his heats, has a massively crush on Alec and still be as wonderful as he is and getting the love he deserve. What’s wrong with this?

A good part of the fandom believes that Alec is a blushing mess, can’t flirt, is a virgin from the victorian era, he is not sure about everything he does and doesn’t deserve to be called a leader, so he needs reassurance from his siblings and Magnus to keep going, while at the same time believing that Magnus is going to solve everything out and have all the answers. Now, I’m not saying these are bad stories but I’ve read my fair share and I keep asking, why there’s not anything like this but with Magnus?

We’ve seen it in the show. Magnus is not always sure about everything, he has his fears, he needs loves too and after that episode, I was surprised to see that while the fics showed his fears, they were somewhat written to reassure Alec because it was his first time.

Magnus can be an omega/bottom/sub, be the High Warlock of Brooklyn, be somewhat shy, be still as wonderful as he is. Make Alec wait for him, can play hard to get, get love and reassurances, get cuddles. He can have everything most of the authors write for Alec.

And I know there is a good part of fandom too that loves Magnus. That’s why I don’t understand why there’s not more fics like this.

So, for those who wants to write something line this or are already writing it, let me know. I’ll keep an eye open.

what about. Magnus being insecure about asking what he wants cause people have always laughed at him and they see him as this powerful person and when he wants them to take control they think he's kidding but actually he really needs and WANTS it. And over the course of time, he stopped asking because people didn't take him seriously, but then he meets Alec. Who has always been so supportive and who has always surprised him, so why wouldn't he surprise him with this too?

magnus like. he really yearns for someone to take that control from him (in bed, when he trusts them) and just like… let go. but the few times he’s hesitantly brought it up, they’re just like. they laugh, or they don’t believe him, or (on rarer occasions, i’m mostly thinking camille) take advantage of it.

and even before he asks, people always assume he’s a dom, that he prefers topping, that he would never want to be tied up or helpless because he’s this super powerful king of a man, why would he want that?

and often people who come to him looking for sex or pleasure are expecting that, and want him to take care of them.

and he’s more than happy to oblige–he doesn’t really mind domming/topping, even if it’s not his preference, and he always loves to please his partners and make them happy–but like. no one really takes care of him, or goes out of their way to make him feel good. 

no one thinks, after all, that such a powerful and strong and wise man would really need comfort or pampering or to be vulnerable and taken care of, no one thinks of him as someone that would want control taken away from him. why would they? he is always seen as this infallible being, almost more than human. 

this goes to being hurt, too–magnus often hides when he’s hurt, physically or otherwise, and after a while people kind of subconsciously think he just can’t get really get hurt. he doesn’t seem like someone you can really wound, he’s like, untouchable. in a way, people just don’t see him as human? especially with his emotional distance in the past century or so after camille. 

plus, not sure how many people know of his parentage–it can’t be many as it was a big secret from alec at first, but it can’t be a total secret either because lorenzo knew. but if it’s a kind of open secret among downworlders, or even just warlocks, (i would assume that is kept from shadowhunters out of respect, even by lorenzo) then that would also contribute to this reputation. he’s the prince of hell, he doesn’t need petty mortal things. king of pandemonium, high warlock of the city, prince of hell–he’s basically magic royalty, and he’s untouchable stone.

but like…. that obviously isn’t the case. he’s soft, kind-hearted, he’s vulnerable, he can definitely get hurt. and while not everyone falls for this facade (catarina, dot, ragnor, and raphael, for example–and camille, all though in the worst way possible) most do. and magnus learns not to really ask for what he wants in bed, or really to rely on others for help.

but with alec. it’s totally different. before magnus ever even implies anything like this, alec wants to take care of him, because that’s just what he does. and alec sees him as human from the very beginning. that first time he sees magnus (in person, anyway), it isn’t the dangerous high warlock or the untouchable prince of hell he sees. it’s the soft, squishy, but badass magnus. the leader. and someone who is unquestionably human. 

(to be fair, magnus does make a meat pun. that is alec’s first impression–super hot guy who makes puns. an amazing first meating to say the least.)

but like, the point is, alec sees him as a person from the beginning. he sees magnus be vulnerable and open with him, he sees magnus get hurt. and eventually, when they do have sex, alec is more than happy to take the lead.

maybe he wasn’t confident that magnus wasn’t a more dom type, but let’s be real, alec is the “take charge” type all the time, especially in bed, and when he does–well, it’s clear magnus isn’t complaining.

and eventually magnus may even bring this up–still unsure and hesitant after everything–and alec doesn’t laugh, or question why, or think he’s kidding. he listens, and is more than happy to take care of his boyfriend.

plus, it’s not like magnus has switched roles and alec is doing something he likes but doesn’t prefer. they’re sexually compatible, and alec genuinely enjoys this dynamic during sex. so it’s just fucking mindblowing for both of them.
