✱ Form•Z Version 8 Unboxing Video
You've probably seen an unboxing video or two on YouTube where nerds geek out when opening the latest gadget. I wanted to do that with a new piece of software. So here's a video that shows FormZ version 8, which is currently in open beta testing, being run for the first time. I didn't get through all of the new stuff but I stumbled through some of the new features that I'm most excited about at first glance - especially the new Sub Division Surface (SDS) modeling tools. The great thing is that it works very similarly to other SDS toolsets so if you've already used them in other programs like I have, it's easy to be up and running very quickly.
In this video I take a look at the following:
Sub Division Surfaces (SDS)
New display options like real-time ambient occlusion, bump mapping and soft shadows
Material Groups
I didn't get a chance to say it in the video, but I'm super excited that we finally have a 64 bit version of FormZ on the Mac (Windows has had it for some time now). That and new OpenGL 3.2 support is going to make v8 a powerhouse. This also means that your computer is going to need a graphics card capable of OpenGL 3.2 and you should be running OS X Mavericks if you're on a Mac.
