Bayonet on a submachine gun — redundancy or insurance ⊘
Submachine Gun
An MP-5 drawn by @qsycomplainsalot for the firearm section of the Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy rulebook, providing a visual example of a Submachine Gun.
Firearm terminology and categorization in real life is not actually very consistent, but a submachine gun is like an assault rifle that fires pistol-calibre bullets. Even though the “MP” in “MP-5” stands for Maschinenpistole, what would distinguish this from a Machine Pistol in Eureka terms is the longer overall length and “rifle-like” shape. In gameplay it would be easier to hit targets at longer ranges with a Submachine Gun than a Machine Pistol, but a Machine Pistol would have an advantage within melee range.
