March 3rd: Polly Honeycombe

I thought the performance of Polly Honeycombe was really interesting, I had a copy of the play that I couldn't read well so my only resource was the performance.

I thought it was really interesting that theatre in the 18th century, the audience was more rowdy and participatory. I didn't expect that. It reminds me of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in the way that the audience participates.

Polly reminded me of Arabella in a way, she was so determined to find who she really wanted to marry, and she went out of her way to do so. I thought that her character was really fascinating. In the performance, I thought each character was portrayed well.

I struggled to find something I really connected with in this though, so apologies for the entry being shorter.

Stressed Out Interpretation

To me Stressed Out is about how as we grow older we become more and more aware of how we lack certain qualities and aren’t as good as other people, making us more insecure and anxious about ourselves, then remembering a past in which we didn’t care about popularity or appearance or being unique, ‘when nothing really mattered’, where we’d have fun with those we loved and were allowed to be ignorant, but then being reminded of our responsibilities and of the real world where we need to make money and need work so so hard that it stresses us out.   As someone who suffers from both anxiety and depression 'My name’s Blurryface and I care what you think’ is kind of reassuring, reminding me that no matter what silly or stupid things I’m thinking there’s always someone who cares about them and that I’m not alone. The contrast between Blurryface and the first verse signifies that even through all the negative thinking or negative things in your life there is always someone listening to what you’re thinking.   Blurryface is only fictional, but that just shows how strong and meaningful song lyrics can be.

For the entirety of the chorus, I believe they’re talking about how all of their problems are outside. They’re down their stairs, outside of their room where they are alone and away from it all, but the second he goes down those stairs and outside into the world, he is forced to deal with all of the problems that come along with having friends and just living out in the world. He wants help down the stairs because he knows that he needs to go out there and face them all, face he world and live, but he is stuck upstairs where he is hidden away from the problems, and he’s finding it hard to break away from that safety and expose himself to his problems and the hurt they inflict on him.

Truce interpretation

Most people probably think the same thing I do for this song and I personally think Truce is Tyler and Josh talking specifically to fans that listen to their music because they are broken. In this song like most other songs the boys are telling them that it’s okay to FEEL broken and to BE broken. They wanna make sure that the fans know they are there for them and they want them to fight and stay alive, hence the lyrics “stay alive, stay alive for me” so yeah that’s what I think :-)

Goner for me is a song about lonleliness and wanting someone special to notice me. It’s about being a little lost and not being able to find myself. I know some things about myself but for you to notice me I need to figure out more about myself. But even if I’m weak I’ll continue the search after myself and your recognition.

The Pantaloon, to me, represents a guy struggling with his sexual identity and how scary it can be to come out. That is a pretty unpopular opinion, but that is what that song represents to me.
