When we got given the brief we thought of some different ways we could go about creating the subscription box for cereal. Thinking about the theme, name and shape of the box, was the starting point for us.
We thought about having a retro theme linking with 80s design and theme, also using the boxes from that time so the packaging would have a nostalgic look.
After we thought about different cereals from around the world, so giving the consumers a taste from exotic countries. When thinking about different places we thought this could work well because people could be interested in what they would taste like. As we has this as the base theme for our cereal box we then thought about name and shape for the box. We wanted a short and snappy name for the subscription box that relates to cereal. We fairly quickly came up with the idea of ‘MUNCH’ being the name of the subscription box because it relates to cereal and its a food that has a munch sound when eating and gives the idea it can be eaten any time if the day. We was all happy with the idea of having ‘MUNCH’ as the name for the box because it is short and snappy and should help draw the consumers eye towards, and it links in with cereal with the sound when eating it and its something you can snack on anytime of the day. Originally we thought of crunch being the name but this could have been to obvious for a cereal subscription box, so we looked at similar words and thats how we came to ‘MUNCH’. As the box is including worldwide cereals we wanted to include a tagline so we started off with ‘Where we can get cultured crunch’ this is linking in with the worldwide idea and adding in the crunch aspect as this links in nicely with the name as this rhymes.
We did some sketches of box shapes and originally went with the square and rectangular shape and would fit the 5 boxes in that they want us to include from the brief but this didn't seem to be working the way we wanted and didn't want it to look like a conventional subscription box. As we needed 5 different cereal we thought of having the box as a pentagon shape to then have 5 triangles inside to fit the separate boxes in. We found that this would work best because of portion sizing and how we could present the different cereals inside of the box.
Now having the basic background information sorted out we could think about design, typography, colour and style.
